Default Nut Driver conversion M* to X.Xmm

Sounds daft, but some manufacturers quote M3, M4, M5 and some in mm and I can't see a sensible conversion chart?

I'm guessing at
M3 = 5.5mm
M4 = 7mm

Is that right?

Yes, and M2.5 is 5mm.

As far as im aware it is........

M3 = 3mm Machine or Metric thread
M4 = 4mm Machine or Metric thread

and so on

You're all correct!
M3 does = metric 3mm thread, but normally the nut that fits it requires a 5.5mm spanner/driver
and so on...
