Mate, trust me, dont use acetone...

Get your oven preheated to 140C, put the wheels on a baking tray.
Pop into the oven for 15 mins
Turn over
Give another 5-10 minutes.
Take them out, glue is like syrup and just peels off easy as you like.

You can then reuse tyres, wheels and even foam inserts - if done right it doesnt seem to damage any of them!
I do it all the time for mine.

*** CAUTION *** watch the glue when you are handling them - its so hot it would lift your skin - almost as hot as the topping of a Pop-Tart!!!

Why bother buying stuff if you can do it from home, no cost and no harmful chemicals?
(genuine question - not trying to be a prick)

Super glue (ca) warming, maybe fumes where food is gonna be ! I wouldn't fancy it !

The first acetone I bought was from a beauty suppliers ! I dont think acetone free will work as that's the bit that does the bizz! May be wrong !

using the oven hardens the wheel rims which leads to them cracking, makes your house stink as well.stick to the acetone, tyres can be cut of before you dunk them and then remove the foam.leaves them clean as well

The smell and the fact that baking and boiling is damn dangerous. I have seen several vary nasty burns from your method and have also seen first hand a tyre pop off a rim spaying molten glue around my oven.

Much less dangerous and much less hassle IMHO to pop em in a pot of acetone forget them for 24 hours then pull out some spanking clean rims

I did a forensic course at uni and i know how bad the fumes are (they're carcinogenic and can cause you to become infertile) but thanks

But with acetone does it need to be bathed in it or just apply it to it (and do you have to cut all the tyres off.

Mate - your signiture is advertising Dave B at Nuclear RC which does the best acetone out there - why the hell are you telling people not to use it?
There is nothing like it and it lasts for so long the cost doesn't even come in to it - get off the weed dude!!!

I have an old ice cream tub, with about 10-15mm of acetone in the bottom (+1 for nuclear acetone btw, www.nuclear-rc.co.uk top stuff!).

Cut as much of the rubber off as you fancy...it does work without doing that as well if your lazy like me sometimes!

I tend to give both sides a dunk in the acetone, then pile the wheels up inside the tub and put the lid on and leave for a day.

The fumes do the job as well, the ones at the bottom nearest the acetone come off best, but the ones at the top of the pile also just fall off as well, nice and easy!!

Then rinse with water under the tap.

Job done!!!

I use rubber gloves when handling them, and am careful not to splash or spray it around...acetone isn't nice stuff, but fine if your sensible with it!

Doesn't harm the rims, removes the glue nicely, only odd bits of crusty glue left occasionally which flake off really easily anyway!

Only ever hurt myself and damaged the rims doing them in the oven.

Wow, alot of strong feelings.

Ive used the oven method loads, know others who have too, and never had an issue.
WIndows and doors wide open in my small kitchen means there are no fumes, and science lab heat resistance gloves go a long way to keep me, my wife and kids safe.
Common sense is always useful!

I have to laugh at the comments of how "harmful" it is to you; cause lets face it Acetone aint no saint in this department either. And as for infertility!? lol. You'll have to ask my family about that one

Re: MY NUCLEAR SIGNATURE - its there because Dave is a top bloke, and the glue and greases that I get from him are second to none. I've never used his glue remover so cant comment on that.

One thing I appreciated was the comment about the brittle wheels. I didnt know this was the reason, but now that you mention it, it makes sense. My wheels were more prone to crack and chip after the baking.

I also know that alot of you guys know more than me about this hobby; so rather than ignoring the comments and keep doing something which might not be the best way; Im going to take on board what you guys are telling me. Maybe next time I'll give Dave a call, get some of his remover and try it that way

Cheers all.
Much love.

Trust me........

It's not something that you can ship / post anywhere, without filling out a hell of a lot of forms.

Another for Nuclear RC!!
