Default B4 Brushed Gearing

Hi, Coming back to racing after a long while out, was hoping to have everything sorted out for the 1st worksop meeting this weekend, however due to delays with the dex210 am now going to run my old b4 with a 10 turn motor (brushed) as I dont want to put all new electrics in a car that I wont be using again, so will just use the old electrics I have. My question is with regards gearing, what sort of size pinion and spur gears do people run as I realise lipos have changed everything with regards motor sizes and gearing. Any help would be good.

Thanks

A 10t brushed motor with Li-Po's (especially if they are a high 'C' rating) may not be the best combo for worksop indoors, the B4 is likely to be like a rat on acid.

If you have any higher wind motors about the place it would be good, possibky a 19t with a large pinion?

My head is spinning, cant believe how much things have changed, why would a 10 turn brushed motor too quick compared to a 7 or 8 turn brushless motor which is what most people seem to run. Sorry if its a dumb question but 10 year since i raced.

Higher voltage from the Li-Po's, especially under load.

The windings are different in a brushless motor, number of turns is not comparable.

Yes 2wd, just looking through threads in here and by what was suggested by MB Models thats all, most says 7 or 8 for brushless, like I said not sure what to run gearing/motors ect but trying to find out by speaking to others. What would you say.

Why not just put your brushless gear in your b4 but keep the wires long? They'll easily fit in a b4 shell even if you don't cut anything off?

Looks like it may be the way to go Wayne, the other issue is I know a little about the electric I have used already as they are very basic in comparison to the new stuff I bought, what size pinions/ spurs are you using indoors at the min (roughly)

Thanks

What turn brushless have you got? For a 7.5 maybe try the kit 81 spur and 24 pinion. I "think" that might be a good starting point but I've not run a b4 for about 12 months so I could be a little out.

Is this Mark Overton by the way?

Welcome back mate! Craig told me you had been down to Batley for a bit of a look and that you were interested in getting back into it.

When did you last race? I remember seeing you in a bar in Leeds about 8-9 years ago saying that you bought some kit off a mate and you tried it for a while but must have quit not long after?

Are you just doing 2wd or are you getting a 4wd also? The new Durango 2wd is an awesome car, so you have definitely made a good choice there!

Thanks, yeah went down a couple of weeks ago spoke to craig, wanted to get back in to it for a while but everything has changed so much with electrics didnt know where to start. Then my parents bought a car off your dad and said you were both still racing so at least I would have someone to point me in the right direction.

Probably 8 years ago last time I raced, but not really done anything other than a couple of club meetings since kippax/ harrogate days, further back than i care to remember lol got a new (at the time) B4 raced it a few time about 8 years ago, bought some second hand junk (cells and motors) and was dumping all the time lol then ended up going to college on evenings and working weekends so didnt get time to follow it up.

Starting off 2wd then we will see, always prefered 2wd but may end up with both see how it goes. With 210 being delayed a bit im having to get the old b4 running and clean off the dust. Are you going sunday.

I wont be there on Sunday as my wife is due to give birth today so Im trying to stay as close to home as possible. Ill be missing the first couple of meetings at Worksop and Chadderton but should be making a return for the rest of the series.

Its going to be interesting to see what kind of level you are at and how long it takes you to fully get up to speed. Are you going to try and race most weeks? It took me a while to fully get back into the swing of things and Im still nowere near the level I got to in the 90's, but thats expected given how much I can commit to it now vs back then.

Wow! congratulations, Craig mentioned you had a baby due, didnt realise it was so soon, new baby is a bit more important than missing a couple of events.

I am interested too to see how long it takes to get up to speed, but also depends alot on the competition, wont take as long if I am racing peolpe better than me bit longer if I have to race out on my own, as it was always the case that if you drove with the quicker drivers it improved your own driving. To be honest im not expecting alot so wont be disapointed either way see what happens.

Plan on doing the worksop series indoors and probably chadderton then out door regionals to up my grading etc take if from there. Probably do some club events at york in between to try up my game lol

Good luck any new the new baby anyway and will see you soon, hope the familiy life does take over completely .
