I've got a couple of HobbyWing 1S ESCs and they are fantastic. I've run them in pan cars with 13.5 through to 4wd off-road with a 5.5 in and they have handled it all with ease!

Click my sig for Racers In Exile and a direct link to the HobbyWing ESCs

used Tekin RS (not Pro) can be found for around £75 or new for £129

Hobbywing Xtreme Stock (2s) under £60 new. Will run 1s but you need a booster which range from £6 to £35. I'll show you how to wire it with booster. It'll run the same 1s software as Catchpole's.

Mamba Max Pro 1s. Booster required (check o0ple sales for esc)

You'd also need a programmer and or PC trackside though for all the above.

KISS
Stock Spec V2, either Norsram or the LRP SXX. Less options in tuning but much easier to setup. Used around £100. No booster needed.

Ask at the club next time your in

Wiring the Tekin for 1s

using receiver pack

using booster

Wiring the HW Xtreme Stock for 1s posted on racechat

In the pic you can see the Hobbywing Xtreme Stock and RC Dynamics booster. The rx lead from the esc has the red lead removed and tiewraped out of the way. The booster rx plug has the red lead removed and inserted into the esc rx plug. Both the booster and esc plug need to be in the receiver and both units need turning on to be able to drive the model. To use the programming box the modified esc rx plug needs to be used in the programmer like normal but both switches must be turned on.

Everything is accessable via the LCD programming card for the HobbyWing AND if you keep the firmware to a non-turbo version via the button on the switch!!

I've run my 1S on a single cell in a Mardave with NO booster or Rx pack and a brushless servo (hungry) without any hint of a problem!!
So if you want to keep is simple to start with then have nearly unlimited tuning options later go for the HobbyWing!

That's because the 1s has a booster built in

The Xtreme Stock needs a booster though.
