Carbon wrap?

I'm thinking of running a second shell and wondering on a carbon wrap, are they easy to do? And with it being a Durango shell is it to complex to wrap?

I don't think it would be too hard?

There is a few guys at Bury have wraps on cars.

Either way it seems the "Wanted" or the "R/C Graphy!" section would be more appropriate.

would like to see this done on a RC body, i've wrapped a load of road car parts, phones, this laptop and it's easy with single curves, but a nightmare on complex shapes.... just takes patience. are the guys doing it, doing it in sections?

I have never attempted a shell but done a few road car parts too...if your gonna wrap it. you'll need an adjustable heat gun (or the missus' hairdryer). then work out where it will overlap and cut a line down it to seperate the sheet.

lay it over the shell and heat it up gently using a sponge to press it into the sections and different shapes on the shell over lapping the parts that need it.. once you have the shape you will need to cut down the overlap in the middle...take the top bit off as this will now be excess... lift up the flap and take out the excess underneath..you should be left with a (near on) perfect seam thats hard to see...

I can only offer this advice from experience on other projects and cant say if it will work 100%... what i can be sure on is it will take time, patience and may not work first time so make sure you have plenty to spare.. practise on other things first before using your shell tho

I have to agree with captainlip here - he's asking for some guidance from people who have experience in a technique that he's thinking of trying himself - seems alright here to me...

Why the need to criticise?

Not criticising, yet I also don't see any confusion on the section's title. It says "I Made This !" and not "How do I make this !" ... or am I the only one speaking English?
I only ever clicked on this because I thought someone had made their own carbon wrap, and I am quite sure the majority of the 588 "Views" thought the same thing.

Like I said, it would make much more sense to ask this in "R/C Graphy!" - but my understanding is that this section is to show off one's handiwork. It appears you are the one with the navigation issue, and you're the experienced lad.

If I was you to save messing anything up and also your time I'd go to a vinyl sign shop and ask them how much they'd charge to fit it ? These people are tucking vinyl into stuff all day and will know how to make it fit and bend.

Or better than them, someone who makes composite pieces for racing cars or motorbike is probably your best bet as they'll be able to mould it perfectly.

All that will cost, you could just ask someone to paint it carbon ? It might not be as good but essentially wizzing around the track at vast velocity you aren't going to notice anything except a dark shell with some decals stuck to it.

If you do go down the route of doing it yourself I don't think a sponge as suggested above would be any more helpful than your finger, you can get little squeegees from vinyl places, they come in grades of how hard they are, nice rounded corners too, that would be your best bet to make it fit, using a hair dryer or heat gun is essential, if you can do it in a warm room and have the wrap already quite warm it will mould better to shapes to.
