Default Club needs/wishes

As promised I have taken the baton and made contact with Bury council who have agreed a meeting to discuss in the first instance the clubs parking wishes. Wishes are not always granted but the council need to know specifically what we would like in terms of parking, hard standing, soft standing, where best etc?

The council are very keen to help out here, as they don't want a moaning group complaining all the time, anymore than we want a ranting football secretary.

You may or may not know that the new building will be used by a gymnastics club, which once completed circa March 2012, will be the 4th club on the Goshem site, along with Bury juniors football, the cycle club and of course ourselves.

In order for all the clubs to operate as effectively as possible it is vital that we know each others needs and schedules. Now I know this might seem like a big task, but essentially what is needed is the sharing of e-mails, contact numbers for those running each club and the ability to publish/share planned event dates and times.

This is a fantastic opportunity to get the council on side and to build good relationships with all our neighbours.

your constructive comments welcomed.

Apologies to the committee if i have trodden on any toes, but Roger did admit to me that he was getting nowhere ranting at the council.

Darren

Fantastic work darren!

as for parkin we need adequate space for around 25 cars this would enable ample parking and pitting space.

also good access to the track, IE not be blocked by the abusive footballers.

the surface needs to be hard pack flat even surface and not the mess we have now with flags and stones and pot holes everywhere. can be a real trip hazard around the track! not to mention we occasionally get members coming who require wheel chair access and the surface is totally unsuitable for this chap.

good luck and really appreciate your effort

As I said last week - and you have the same idea - if we can get ahead of the issues then we can only win, or at least find amicable solutions, especially if only one side is gobby making us look responsible going forwards.
Good luck in the first instance and if I can be of any help drop me a pm, I'm not local but maybe a useful point as the club is of course trying to attract people from everywhere

240V power would be great.

Then we could park on the car park and pit around the track. without charging issues! Gazebos/Tents would be ideal.

Then we wouldn't be in anyone's way.

Default power supply

Matt,

I agree. This is precisely why we need to meet with the council. If power is a feasible option then im sure it would make more sense to do it now whilst work is ongoing on the new build, however I suspect this was discussed when the track was re-located.
I will of course voice this idea and the benefits round parking.

We could perhaps look at producing an aerial map of the site, on which ideas can be placed with ideal access, hard, soft standing etc. Of course i hope to get a copy from the council but that will be in a couple of weeks and having the members thoughts before the meeting will be advantageous.

Can anyone print an A3 size one or larger?

Lip,

Your quite right to point out the need for safe access and again this I will raise. As for the hard standing all round, that would restrict the use of gazebos etc in that particular area. The area immediately around the fencing is tight but again the power is the problem.
p.s lets stop using derogatory comments towards our club neighbours, else we wont move forward!

Steve,

Thanks pal. Once we get the meeting with the council sorted, I will speak at the track. I will actually be racing this Sunday and not just visiting with the kids!

cheers guys keep on with your views.

Darren

thats fantastic work darren, i think this is a good direction to push forward as rodger has mentioned before that were just a little club that nobody listened to. hopefully now our little voice will be heard. as for about plans about the parking and other wishes is there access to how the new gymnastics building will look and where the final building will be related to our club sort of blueprints. it might be easyer to work out parking space if we know what sort of room we could work with or with what were allowed to use.

Ideally wouldn't we all like a permanent covered pit-table area with parking really close to it? I'm thinking like the kind of thing they have at Halifax's on-road track, can see it in this photo i pulled off Google. I know it's not likely, but if you done ask, you dont get:

This would be great in a perfect world, but the club has to be "Anti-Chav"
that's why no top has been put on the rostrum.

Power is supposed to be coming, but will be tapped off the new hall, so won't be out to us for some time - likely next year. We always used to have power, and are meant to have it, the genny is an interim measure.

The one of the original proposals Stu took to the council had the track looking a lot like it does now, but with hard standing on the opposite side of the track from the rostrum for a pitting area, and a path round the front of the house to the main car park. The plan was park in the main carpark but have an easy route to the trackside and a good stable area for pitting. It would be covered in poor weather with some gazebos (thats what the clubs white one was intended for) which slotted into post holes sunk in the hard standing.
Power would not have been available, but then its not always available at other places either. I just use an old 12V because mains isn't available everywhere and I'd rather not tap off the car.
Given that that idea was presented and rejected, I suspect we have all the space they are willing to give us. Certainly we were never supposed to be able to park where we are now, and never been allocated any parking to ourselves. The plans expected all to use the main car park. Therefore the central argument must be that the main carpark is inadequate.

Personally I don't see this as you treading on my toes - in fact I rather welcome it. I'm not local, I'm busy during the week and I just don't have the time to spend jumping through council hoops.

Truth is the club has gain a lot of new members lately, but its also lost a few of its older members, who where unfortunately the ones who did a lot of the work behind the scenes. Rog does a lot more than most even realise, but he's getting tired. Rob and I help him out where we can, but neither of us can spend the time we'd like on the club. Personally I have to accept its £8-10 worth of fuel just to drive over there and back, and frankly given that my day job is dealing with squabbling kids keeping you lot in line at times makes my day off seem too much like work.
So I'm quite glad when people are willing to get involved and help out. We need that more.

Noted Simon. I'm hoping that at least one of you, rob or roger can make the meeting too.

Dave,

We need an aerial map, from Google would be fine, outlining the track and surrounding area. I appreciate it out of date but what ever you can get we can overdraw on it.

Will you be at the track on Sunday?

Howler,

Again another idea to at least discuss with the council.

Cheers

Maybe before we start racing, lets all get our heads together see what we can come up with?

I've supplied an aerial shot, but some pics on the ground might help.

I won't be there Sunday, family commitments.....

To be fair! Buds has a point. On the other hand something needed doing and quick. So fair play to Darren.

Maybe the Committee needs looking at?

There is plenty of "Newer" members that are hungry for racing.
what i'm trying to say is, Darren has no major loyalty to the club, hes not a long standing member either. hes bee there about the same time has i have.

But hes prepared to go the extra mile off his own back.

That's what the club needs.

I have to agree with buds, we need a committee to give the club some backbone again
And keep things running with a bit more authority and with elected decisions

But also think Darren has done a fantastic job of going speaking to the council and deserves a thankyou as I no Rog was a bit sick of having to deal with the running of all the club needs all the time and no one else had come up with any ideas or action

But again this raises the need for a proper committee meetings to get the club moving in the right direction Again
I'm glad this has come up really

In my eyes there is a lot more to being on the committee than just turning up to race and talking bollocks on here. It's a big commitment and committee members need to be more pro-active in what they do for/at the club after all they in theory get paid to do it

I'm not knocking Darren for grabbing the bull by the horns and showing some enthusiasm but it's not his job to do what our committee are failing to do.

After all it's a privilege not a chore to be on the committee!!

Buds
I find it a chore and have done for ages.
