Default Tamiya Hornet

Hi, I have just fitted ball races to my Tamiya Hornet. When I put the gearbox back onto the chassis I am concerned about the little springs at the bottom. Should this really flex easily and occasionally stick? Am I just being paranoid.

Thanks for any help on this and what could I do to make this better. I used to have a grasshopper and wonder if that rear set up was better.
