Default B4.1 or Cougar SV PLEASE HELP!

Ok guys,i'm returning to RC after 20 yrs and looking to go club racing (going to my first meeting tomorrow as a spectator) and I honestly can't decide between the B4.1 and the Cougar.
Atmittedly in my heart i am pulled toward the b4 but my mind tells me it's been around for a long time and will therefore will probably outdated and outclassed sooner rather than later.

what are the pro's and cons of each model?
Also,if I went for the B4 should I take the plunge and go for the team kit or is the rtr really worth considering?
How much to convert it to a team afterwards?

Haven't got a huge budget so probably won't be racing for a month or so until I can buy everything but would like to get it right first time around.
Any help or words of wisdom at all would be very much apreciated.

I would consider the b4.1 rtr brushless version: http://www.m-k-racing.com/product_in...oducts_id=7576

You will need a battery pack (go for a lipo, possibly saddles if you want to ever upgrade to a 4wd buggy later on, then you wont need to buy new saddles again), but make sure you get a lipo compatible fast charger (cccv method).

It will be more than quick enough for indoor and club racing, plus you can always upgrade the electronics later on should you wish, for not much (2nd hand racers gear is good, see the for sale section on here).
Apart from the shocks, and some small details (like some ball bearings, and turnbuckles) this is a great buggy, and not far off the factory spec car!

It also includes everything you need to 'race' on a budget bar the battery.

Note that it does use imperial screws, so getting a set of some decent hex drivers, and nut drivers is worth it if you want to keep the screws in good nick.
The car will come with some allen keys and plastic tools, but its worth buying some decent allen drivers to replace the cheap allen keys.

Check out the brca website for clubs in your area...if you want to race, I would also invest in a lipo charging sack, as this will probably be mandatory at a club you would want to race at.

Hope this helps
M.

Please note that there is nothing wrong with the b4.1 rtr shocks, they are just not the v2 versions on the ft. If you are unsure, then get someone to help you build one.

Depending on where you race, some UK tyres might be worth getting like schumacher yellow minispikes or minipins for indoors.
Some stiffer springs as well for the front might be worth an investment (assoc. Silvers).

Alternatively, you could buy leeboys cougar here:
http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74969

You would need a handset to go with it go 2.4 ghz if poss.
I can vouch for leeboy as a genuine seller, he is sound.

Cheers.

I've been talking to him about that one today and it's a very real option, for some reason though something keeps pulling toward a B4. Maybe it's the reliability and race proven nature of it, i don't know.
Definately the rtr would mean i'd be up and running much quicker although I would also like to build it from scratch so I know exactly where everything is and what it does.
Is the gear diff ok in the rtr? i'm sure i read somewhere on here it might be a bit problematic?

X6 is an excellent car, i had one for this seasons regionals (now sold, but only for cash flow reasons). Very strong, and uses the same gearbox internals as the b4 ft, (not b4.1, that uses metric bearings for the diff).
It is currently on a slight go slow in development terms though due to xfactory currently developing their 4wd buggy, the x7, but I am sure they will be back on it again soon!

However I would go for a second hand one if possible, as to buy new, they are quite expensive, but do include a lot of nice parts such as titanium ballstuds, hinge pins etc.. A real top spec kit.

The x6 has seemingly lost quite a few club drivers to the losi 22, but they seem to be struggling a bit, and are missing their x6's!!

The geardiff seems a bit hit and miss. Most of the problems come from installing the shims that keep the diff mesh correct as part of the rtr build (not 100% sure on this however). However, I would confirm the situation on this with the UK importer - CML.

Hope this helps.

Glad you've posted in here I can reply now!
All depends how good you are I suppose.

Wouldn't buy a rtr there rubbish for Comp use I've drove a few helping people to set there's up and they lack alot in alot of areas!

B4.1 as it's end of season nearly and then use it indoors till the c4.1 is out
B4.1 is easier to set up less messing around and they throughly check the car and make sure it's fine before selling it to the public and you won't find your buying new things for it every week to keep up with the jones's!

Enough said

Ok guys SOLD! B4.1 team it is. I can just about afford it so i'll pop over to modelsports listing on ebay in a minute and purchase one.
If it's ok with you i'll be back for recommendations for motor, esc, servo, radio gear, batt, charger, and a servo.
i'll be racing outdoors initially.
Sorry to ask so many basic questions but the last time i drove i was still using nicads in my original cougar so i really am starting from scratch again.

I wanted the opinions of people who know this car the best, those that drive them.
They know the limitations, weekpoints and strengths so I can then decide what I want to do.
I asked a very similar question in the Schumacher forum too but not one person replied

Having had both, I think you have made the right choice.

On their day both cars are great, but if you are just starting off again, the B4.1 is bulletproof and more simple to set up than the Cougar...

Just ignore the kit set up/tyres and get one of the more UK specific ones. (Blue/silver springs etc)
