Default 502x / 511 universal drive pins falling out!

Hi,

I seem to be having major problems with my 502x with the drive pins which hold the axles and the universal shafts together, no matter what I do the grub screws always loosen and the pins fall out. I always assemble them completely dry no grease, and use Losi thread lock which I found to be the strongest around, but they fall out. This maybe due to the 502x being shaft drive and causing more strain. It seems a rubbish design as the new Tamiya 417 touring car has clips over the pins which prevents this whole issue, and I wish that they would do the same for the buggies.

Anyway what does everyone else do to hold the pins in? I am tempted to just use super glue!

Thanks for your help
Chris

Ive run my 502 since the start and never had any issues. But if i was having the problems the first thing id try is:

1. Dremel a small flat spot on the pin so the grub screw has something to really capture
2. Use Tamiya or Durango threadlock
3 Put a sleeve of heatshrink around the joint to stop the pin from potentially sliding out.

Just remember to dip the joint in Acetone (nail varnish remover) to clear it of any old threadlock or glue and start fresh with the above tips.

I've ran mine for 5 months now without this happening or any other failures.. TBH I've never even checked if they're tight from first build
As the previous post says a little flat spot on the pin will help! I use associated thread lock. Remember to give the thread lock plenty of time to cure.
Good luck

Hi,

Great thanks for the answers to my question about the pins falling out, I will try the dremel idea and create small flat spots for the grub screws to hold onto. I did also try the heatsrink idea over the pins, but that made no difference last night, pin still fell out! And I will also try the thread lock that came in the kit see if that is better.

Thanks Chris

Default re

let the threadlock dry(6 + hours), that usually solves most screw unwinding issues..hope you get it sorted!
