Default Electric Motor Pinion Change

Hello all,

I have recently purchased a 2nd hand Tamiya TL-01, I've fitted an Ansmann 14x2T brushed motor and a Etronix speed controller. I am wanting to play around with performance and gearing.

I am sorry if this problem has already been asked but can you just add a bigger pinion on your motor I think the biggest I can fit on the car is a 25T, but if I do this do I have to change to spur gears?

And am I right in thinking that the bigger the pinion the higher the topspeed and smaller the quicker the acceleration.

Appreciate your time!

The TL01 is the same as the mini and has set holes for three different types of pinions. So on the three sets of holes it should tell you the size pinon you can use. Changing the spur gear invloves changing the main drive gear so it would have to be a tamiya or maybe three racing part to allow you to do this.

I believe there was a sport tuned gear set for it that allowed you make the gearing higher using the same holes but bigger pinons. Although that might have only been the TT01.

It's a long time since I raced TL01's in the tamiya eurocup and my memory is getting worse as I get older so I can't be sure of if there is a speed tunes gear set or not.

Actually I have just found on on e-bay. So yes they did do a speed tuned gear set.

Okay, so I did a bit of looking around and found this...

So if I get a 23T pinion and the speed tuned gear set the ratio is smaller as stated on the above link, I can use the existing holes for my motor and get a higher top speed, is that right?

theres also a carbon prop shaft and carbon gears shafts to help with accelerations.........
