Default ZX5 questions...

Sorry guys, but as someone once said, the only stupid question is the one no one asks!

I am trying to fit a 2S lipo into my buggy but for the life of me can't get the batery strap to fit. It seems the easiest answer may be just to file/grind off the lug that points downwards. The lipo is slightly bigger than the nimh that the buggy came with and not allowing the battery strap to fit and get the pins in.
How did you manage?

I have never owned a buggy with a slipper clutch and having tried it out the other day it seems to take ages before the clutch is fully engaged, when on full acceleration. Is this normal or should I tighten the nut?

How do you fit everything inside??? I was intending to replace the stock ESC and receiver but there simply doesn't seem enough space to fit mine in. Perhaps I will retian the stock ESC and replace just the receiver.

Thanks.

Peter

Most people just turn teh batt strap upside down and if needed add a couple of milimeters of spacers under the posts.

Tighten the nut to the point the slipper only slips for the first 2 feet or so from a standing start.

Modern buggies have become smaller as the race quality electronics have shrunk, the main reason is to try and get the major masses (motor & battery) where they give the best balance. That said I've never had any trouble getting the electronics into any Kyosho buggy.

Hope that helps.

you could get some of this to hold the batteries in, it will last ages as its reusable a few times..

I think the problem is the ESC is an Ansmann Sirius and it has a large metal heat sink base to it. I will try the standard ESC and that should fit with the RX ok.

Tried the battery strap the other way up no joy with that, can't seem to get the pins in. spacers under the posts seems the way forward.

Thanks for the help. I will adjust the Slipper and see how it goes. I am hoping it's easier to drive a buggy with a slipper than one without as you don't seem to need to be as gentle with the trigger before the thing spins out!

Take out your battery post's & add 2mm plastic or alloy washer uderneath them.
Then you will find that your lipos do fit in nice (I'm guessing your running the standard FS not the FS2).

Also another tip to make sure your Batteries dont move as I found my Lipo moved only slighty but wanted to make sure they didnt move.
You can use velcro place some on your chassis & some on the bottom of your lipo so it's nice fitting.

Also another thing to do to keep

If I remember correctly there is a lug/lip at either end of the std battery bar that needs trimming off so it can be used upside down.
Never had any problems with electrics in my zx5, so maybe yours are arger footprint items?

I've got a SP GT 2.0 Pro (with full size capacitor) and full size servo - tight but fits quite tidy. The tiny KO receiver helps though...would be very tight if I have a larger receiver.

You can fit your receiver on the upper deck. Not pretty but it works.

Thanks for the help guiys, I bought the buggy off ebay, yes I think it was a RTR.

I have solved the spacce issue by using the original ESC which is a lot smaller that my original one. I was hoping to use mine to save having to change battery connectors.

I tried fitting the receiver on top of the servo but now the body won't fit.

I will try the spacer idea, for the battery posts tomorrow and see how i get on. I don't really want to start cutting/grinding unless I really have to. ( but it will be a good excuse to buy a dremel! )

All in all I am so impressed with the build quality, ruggedness of the buggy, oh and the speed! I'm hooked and when I can justify the expense I think a new one will be on it's way to my house!

Ok, got the electrics in, all working nicely, I have tightened up the slipper, that was very loose, how tight should it be?

Seems to run well, quiet, and FAAAAAST, I was going to put 2S lipos in it but got distracted by other stuff, seems fast enough for me for the time being on 4500 nimhs
