Default Mad Monkey Rat Spur and diff Question

Hi All,

Had my Mad monkey running for a couple of weeks now with a 8.5 brushless. Can believe how good this car actually is for the money. Hopped up the usual shocks etc, but need some advice on the spur, found the kit one to be noisey so purchased an xpro, well very little difference.

Is there anything else that is quieter than will fit direct without replacing all the pads and plates?

Also looking to replace the diff balls with ceramic ones, any advice on if it is worth purchasing the xpro diff gear and can I remove the thrust washer (containing the thrust bearing balls) and replace with just ceramic balls (1.2mm) between the two plates, I cannot see why not as the B4 is the same.

Thanks in advance

sounds to me like the mesh of your gears isnt quite right as my xpro and mad monkey are as quiet as anything in that all i can here is slipper working and motor turning

Definitely not the meshing, I am using Schumacher pinions if that is of any help.

I just find it louder than my old B4.

I don't own a Mad Monkey, but does it use exactly the same transmission Ansmann part # that the Rat uses?
Are you setting mesh by sight or using the paper method?
I never had any luck using the paper method and just use sight on 48dp gears.
If it's any consolation, I own 4 different vehicles, and all the vehicles sound somewhat different even though the mesh is set perfectly. I've yet to strip a gear.
All my motors are different which would also account for a slight difference in sound.

The Gearbox is almost identical to the 'Rat' apart from one extra idler gear which is the same size as one in the Rat.

I set the mesh up by eye, my Dave is quieter. It almost sounds like the pinion is too far away from the spur but it is not.

I am going to try a B4 spur and slipper pads in the next few days as I believe that these fit which a little shimming.

Thanks for your comment on teh motor I have a couple more brushed and brushless I will have a go with those to see if that makes any difference.

Ta for now.

I will let you know how I get on.

I would have thought it was the same spur in the pro car. I would try a different pinion (borrow a buddies). Losi and Hotbodies share a similar design spur but you will need their pads

As for the diff that’s easy http://www.bfastrc.com/tqracing.html Get the Pro Drivers kit for the SX10 (that’s the US version of this car)

This fixes everything and makes the diff sooooo smooth it's amazing.
