Hello guys,
I need help to pick a new car. Gonna run this car on a outdoor dirt track, hard-packed, bumpy, and sometime gets really dusty. All of these cars have parts support in my area. So far, I'm a bit biased to B44.1 but it seems the most fragile out of this three cars. So, which car do you guys think should I pick? Thanks |

B44.1 is most not à fragile car. It can take a lot of abuse. But Durango is a better choise if the conditions are as you say. Easy to work on when everything is dialed in with electrics and so on.
Tamiya and Associated got undertrays if you want to keep dirt out. |

This is purely based on me alone but the Trf502x on track seems very very planted, jumps great and at our club out qualifies all Durango. Seems very strong and really easy to work on. There's also more room for electrics. I'm in no way going to say anything negative towards the other chassis mentioned. They all go well, just really comes down to what you as an individual are looking for in a buggy. If you do go Trf502x do Lees steering mod, so much better in and out the corners.

I agree with previus speaker. All of todays existing Racing buggys are great machines and If i were you I would look to where you can get The best support regarding spares and what is the most common modell at your track.
People put too much faith in car itself than to them selves. Beleive me, I have owned every 4wd out there and I am now with Ae. Why? Cuz there spares are cheep and easy to get a hold of. It can handle brutal punishment and The drive train is bullitproof. Ae got The hardest and most durable axles and outdrives of them all. And I run it on exactly the same type of tracks as you. Then an undertray is most valuable ![]() Go with what ever car you choose and stick with it and really put in the time to learn your ride and learn how to drive before you change car again. Took me a lot of cars before I discovered that fact so hope this helps. To answer your Durango question I say this. On dirt the geardiffs really dig in and helps with the acceleration. I had one and it was easy to set up for bumpy dirt tracks. But so is any any car now a days when I know what to change ![]() |

502or511 any day. I have had the 410 and it's great but you will hate the oil diff. 502 is planted out of the box. And parts are not as hard to get as people moan about. You can buy them from me or jt models : )

what kind of a reply did you think you were going to get being in a tamiya thread?
if you asked this question in the AE forum, people are going to say b44.1. if you asked this question in the durango forum, you are going to get people to say get the durango. |

Thats not strickly true. If it was loose dirt, I'd go for the B44.1, but I use the 511 since its better on high grip surfaces imo.

I've recently driven the 44.1 and it is quite a nice drive. My choice from these cars would be either the 502x or the 44.1 both are less agressive and more forgiving then the DEX, unless that suits your driving style ofcourse.
Bang for buck i'd say the 44.1 wins the comparison. Wouldn't trade my 511 for any of these though. ![]()

dex410 all day long! if its to agressive, the diffs can be tweaked with diff oil to "tone" it down

![]() Even with other oils it's still a more agressive car to drive. Not that it's slow, but it has to suit you on dirt.

Ive had a B44, D4 and have also tried a Dex410 amongst other cars. In my opinion the 502X is the best 4wd ive ever had or tried. The Dex410 is a good car but as Carno said, "too aggressive", especially for my style of driving.
The 502X is a very smooth easy to drive car, and sometimes seems slow because its so stable and goes where you point it, all this equates to consistency and overall good qualifying times. I think that's much more important than "hot laps". Also as stated above, spares aren't so much of an issue anymore with myself at JTmodels stocking up on a good TRF spares supply. |

your best bet mate is to try and get a go on each of the cars before you decide. I have just started running the 44.1 and find it real smooth and excelent on the rough stuff too

Thanks for all of you guys for giving great opinions. And can anyone tell me what's the main weakness of these buggies? (e.g parts break, etc)

The 502: front tower, thats about what I've seen or heard about. Diffs wont last long with standard balls.
The B44.1: front tower aswell, front suspension arms, difficult access to diffs. DEX410: leaky diffs, center drive shaft pins on earlier models. My experiences from what I've seen at practice days. |

Have you considered a kyosho zx5 fs2?. I've had a 410 and its a very aggresive, unless you are a reasonable driver(in my opinion)the car will be too much for you.
I had one for overall a year and couldn't get on with it. Ive now got the fs2 and wish I'd bought it instead of the 410. I'd say,go down to your track and ask people if you can try there cars before you decide. |

I had a 410r, yup spent most of my time dialing out aggression on it. Otherwise v nice and bullet proof.
I'll be moving to the 511 or back to a SX Loved my SX2 Hated my FS Sort of liked my 410R |
