xxx-4, Help with setup please

Hi,

Basically, having made my xxx-4 silly quick, it now doesn't want to turn (unless I put more power through the wheels and make it drift). Whilst it is is immense fun, I'm just curious as to whether I can help improve turn in. I cannot change the rear diff (it needs to be locked to cope with power). The front diff is currently very loose. Do I want firmer front or rear suspension? Is there anything else I can change to improve turn in?

well usually you soften the fron and harden the rear to get mreo steering.

take of that silly big wing will help with steering, Isn't it made for 8th scale???

I was running the stock wing, as the big one doesn't give any flex for jumping. I will fit the 1/8th wing back again now though, thanks for reminding me

I mean't it will be WORSE with that wing on, just because it will generate so much rear downforce hence giving less steering.

Leave it off and use the stock one.

Used to run 50wt oil in the front, blue piston and black spring, mount shocks middle hole on shock tower and inside on wishbone

In the rear 30 wt oil, blue piston and red spring, mount shocks middle hole on tower and inside on wishbone.

Whether it will work with all the extra cells I have no idea, but the springs you have on it make it pretty soft. Also a smaller wing will help as slimboyfat has said. Tightening the diff up at the front may well help pull the car through the bends as there is less diff action. You could also try mounting the cells on the right side of the car in the forward position.

But have you thought that you may just be trying to go round corners to quick

I know what you meant mate, but I prefer the look of the big wing.

Thanks for all the advice , I have no idea what wt oil is in there now as I bought the car used. Maybe that's something I should look at. I need firmer springs, currently running red/orange up front and pink rear.

Can any one tell me which colour springs I should be after? I have no idea which springs are harder or softer than my current setup, so any advice would be of great help.

I can't be trying to go round corners too quick, as there are no corners :P
I am just running in a large open space, and I have noticed that turn is no longer as sharp as it was (this is a result of the locked diff, added weight and silly wing). Hence this thread asking if it is possible to regain any turn in. Changing the firmness of the springs is certainly something I will try

Go for Black springs up front and Red on the rear. They are the only ones I ever used when I raced my XXX4.

Black is the hardest front spring you can get, then goes down to Blue, Green, Silver, Orange

On the rear Red is slightly harder than Pink. You could possibly try orange which is next up on the rear or silver which is slightly stiffer than orange as you have all the extra weight
