Default Indoors 27th Feb

Managed to get along to the 2nd of the new Batley indoor meetings, and it was great

It was really nice to see a good turn out and lots of new faces. The venue is spot on and the rostrum is great. Everyone helped put the track out - and away, and it was all done in no time at all. Great atmosphere too, i'm almost tempted to bring my twin 3 year old boys along for the day - almost tempted !

It was fantastic to see the under 13's heat was even bigger than last week, great for the sport - Go Issac!

I think it was much better running the straight in the other direction this week, and making the track slightly longer made a huge difference - It didn't feel like an 18th scale track this week! I think we could go a big bigger still if everyone squashes up a bit in the pits, would anyone have issues with the track being a bit further away? We need to look into possibly having closer spacing on the stagger in qualifying, Craig and myself had a hard time putting consistent runs in as we were pretty much into lapped traffic on lap 2. A 10 second stagger doesn't work too well with an almost 12 second lap!

I'll bring some thin strips of wood next time to make the jumps a bit smoother, I designed them as landing ramps so the lip at the bottom is a bit big which is why they were a bit pants

I've got some time off soon so I should get chance to make some more features, proper curved profile takeoff ramps are next on the list then some straight boxes so we can make a tabletop

I agree with your comments about the under 13s Richard - 9 this week - and they all seem to be enjoying it too. Also great to see more families back at the Club - this is what happens when we get younger drivers - parents want to be involved and come along to see them race.

Can definitely reduce the stagger if everyone is okay with this.

Reducing the stagger will work to a point, and no issues for me with it.

However, with a combination of factors ....

a) 2WD & 4WD running same day,
b) small-ish field (for now!),
c) small-ish track, and...
d) a full range of driver abilities from absolute beginners to top-end F1s

you're always going to get heats in with a broad mix of abilities, and therefore lots of "lapping" going on..... which also impacts drivers at the back of the pack, as they are forever pulling over, rather than having a smooth run.

e.g. in my heats on Sunday, I was the one doing the lapping, however from 10th on the grid in the A, I was the one pulling over every 2 seconds !

The venue is great to have though - maybe Dianne can indicate at what point (ie driver numbers v cost) it becomes a decision to look at having the second hall (one for pitting, one for the track).

As for the kids, it is indeed great to see. My lad (nearly 4) is definitely not even fit to spectate, never mind race !! ....but my daughter (nearly 7) is keen to take Isaac & co on

Andy

I reckon the only fair thing to do, is to attach a couple of house bricks to the back of Mr Lowe and Collinson. They have handicaps in golf, why not toy car racing

Dont think a brick would slow em down enough. May as well just tie the back markers to them, then nobody would have to move over.

On a serious note Isaac is really enjoying it and see's Mr Lowe and Collinson as a real inspiration of how it should be done.

As Dianne has said it is nice to see families there and there is a nice welcoming atmosphere.
