Default Basic Radio Kit to fit a secondhand "roller"?

Hi,

Wanting to get into racing and buy something competitive, but cheap.

Been looking at buying new RTR B4.1 or similar but someone suggested by a used car from ebay or from the oople forum sellers.

All the used cars seem to come without electrics, most even without motor!

So how would I budget for my electrics? What would be a good radio, servo and ESC set to get me going, to drop into a secondhand car?

Needs to be capable to race, but not the best kit.

I don't know what features of a radio a really required. Why do I need 3 channels when 2 will drive the car? Steering response based on speed sounds great, but in reality is it needed?

If you are starting from scratch, you are better off with an RTR. There is no way you can match the value by buying various bits second hand.

I wish I could recommend good quality, inexpensive individual components that would get you going for less than an RTR - but they just don't exist any more. It's not the way the market works.

the Core Code is about the best value if you want sticks. Has all the top functions if you need them and is also 2.4ghz, so no crystal clashes.
Can be picked up for under £80 i think, compared to £300+ for KO and Futaba etc.

for a servo, a second hand KO or Savox will do the trick, probably about £30.

you can go for second hand electrics too as people are always upgrading to the latest spec speedos. You obviously won;t get a warranty though.

As previously said, the separate route will cost more than an RTR, but the component quality will be better and should last you longer into your racing. With an RTR you will need to upgrade the electrics as you improve as a racer.
