Default Motor is over heating in my DEX410

I’m using a LRP SXX TC V2 and a 6.5 Octa in a DEX410 and the motor is running really hot. A few times it has shut down on the last lap. What am I doing wrong? I’m using 87/20 gearing. Settings 3-4-3-4. on a dirt track. I have cut a holes in the scoop just above the motor, one at the front and the rear of the scoop and trimmed away more of the body at the rear. The timing on the motor has not been changed (out of the box).

The ESC is running on the cold side.

Bearings in the car are fine. All the drive line ones were replaced a few weeks ago.

Help!!!

Try backing the slipper of a tad as a friend off mine was having the same problem and this seemed to fix it.
Also put plenty of grease on the crown gear.

I know you have stated that you have replace your bearings but double check what happens to the bearings when you tighten up the wheel nut. If the crunch spacer in between has worn then the bearings will feel like they have gone again. I also found that if I put a new bearing into the plastic rear hubs that the plastic was putting so much pressure onto the bearing it felt like it needed to be replaced even though it was new. Found that the holes in the rear plastic hubs are not exactly round and needed opening up. Not too much but just enough to stop the bearings from being crushed. Also check with your finger to see if the output drives on the gearboxes are heating up as I found I had to run the gap between the bearings in the gear boxes slightly wider but then use a thin piece of electrical tape on the outside of the bearing to make sure it was captured solidly by the two diff halves. I use a 22 or 23 on a 6.5 but not sure what the difference is on the octa wind from LRP is. Normally 20-22 on a 5.5.

I found my 7.5 on a 21 overheated after about 6mins indoors on a small track. Dropped down to a 19 and lost 30degrees of heat lol.

Now I can do the 7min finals without the fear of it thermalling out

All depends on track size etc. E.g. I'm running a 24 - 26 on my 7.5

May try the new RW spur gears for alternative FDR too and also the 83 / 85 will enable you to run the motor closer to the middle of the car
