I need an engine. What do people suggest? Cheers, G

picco are good dude, get a starter box and a non-pull start one, less faffing about.
Pipe has got to been passed for noise, I think it has an EFRA stamp on it (or has to have a stamp on it for BRCA)

Have a look on the www.s-m-d.co.uk site.
The Go 7 porter is the equal of anything out there at the moment and about half the price of most! Whilst your there you'll find the pipes that most of the guys running at the sharp end of the nationals are using, again fantastic value! |

i would recommend getting in touch with Jamie booth at smd as well, the go 21 pro engine is ace ether the 5 or 7 port both work great, he also has a efra legal pipe very cheap very good

Graham
i'd say wait for now before buying a pipe as there are new EFRA specs for next year! pretty much ALL the pipes in use at the moment will be illegal according to the construction specs submitted to the pipe manufacturers! have a look on the pdf http://www.efra.se/news/download/200...ept-2007V2.pdf as far as i know the BRCA will give us a years grace on using the new pipes like they did when the 3 chamber ruling came into effect in 2005 ![]() it really depends on where you plan on racing really? club racing - you can get away with pretty much anything BRCA Nationals - prob use existing 3 chamber pipes in 2008 but have to use new ones the year after (need official confirmation on this) EFRA sanctioned events - you'll need a new pipe made to the new specs! nothing published from last weekends EFRA AGM yet? as for engines the Go are spot on for the money, a few quid more will get you a Novarossi Sirio or RB! any of those would be a good choice ![]()

Basically unless your doing nationals you can run anything you like.
As for engines the go range are good but i've not seen many go for more than 3 gallon before needing a P+L. For the money the #OS vspec @ £150 uk or £130 HK takes some beating Whats the engine for......buggy or truggy? |

The engine is for a Losi 8ight buggy
![]() If we talk about comparing them to a brushless motor, I'd prefer something more like a 6.5 (5.5 maybe) rather than a 4.5 or 3.5. I prefer easy to drive to balls out power..... Cheers, G

Easy to drive = v spec,rb ws7 (not c6bb) imho, both these have a nice linear power band not to aggressive bottom end.
Depends how much you want to spend, also i don't know if you will need an efra pipe for the neo as its not a brca national event. |

i'm not 100% sure if there will be any technical inspection at Neo08 but don't go assuming there wont as it has been discussed because of the 10 minute qualifiers!
in the past pipe choise at Harper has always been open as noise isn't an issue but Graham said he wanted to do some nationals next year so really his pipe needs to at least conform to the required spec for those meetings ![]() as for the 10 minuite qualifiers without scrutineering everyone clever enough to do so will obviously use a truggy tank however with scrutineering you'll need an engine that can do the 11 plus minutes needed as you need an out lap & an in lap! obviously you could pit for fuel but losing the stop with a 10 minute engine would be quite a good advantage! bit risky on a std tank but not impossible! it'll ceretainly keep things interesting ![]()

What sound pressure levels are the current pipes allowing? Thanks.

i think in the original item they mentioned 90db?
but as far as offroad go's, many if not all our tracks in the UK are in out of town locations with minimal chance of disturbing the neighbours! i thought it was the sound of the PA systems that were the cause of most issues?

I'm not a RallyX racer so don't know the main source of contention, i.e. PA system or the cars themselves. However, someone at my club was breaking in the engine for a 1/8 buggy and boy was it loud, I don't know how people stand racing them all day! From my brief experience I can see why EFRA are keen to curb the nosie levels of the cars.

90dB will damage your hearing, but you said the magic word - exposure. It all depends on the length of time you are subjected to the noise.

![]() ![]() Decibel figures can be misleading as, amongst other things, it depends on the reference level and distance from the source. It wouldn't be so bad if they sounded like a throaty V8 or similar ![]()
