Can brushless motors be repaired?

Just wondering if anyone offers a service to repair brushless motors??

I cooked a lrp x11 at moto arena, it came off at over 100c

what normally fails when the motors get this hot? And is it a bin job??

Mark, they can be repaired, but it's normally that the wires have melted together and shorted out.

Ah I see! thanks Chris, I have 2 spare X11 style motors, maybe one can be made out of all 3 depending on whats failed.

The 2 older ones I have are the 4 star type but the cans look the same so maybe one can be used for bits?

Ive got an x12 5.5 that gets super hot super fast but when I checked the winds with a multimeter they read fine with the same resistance so there's no short and ive changed the sensor assembly so its not that.

Ive heard that when they get hot the insulation breaks down and even tho there's no short and no loss of performance the motor just keeps building heat untill it does eventually blow.

Is there any truth in this?

It's the magnetism in the rotor that is affected from over heating. Change the rotor if you keep overheating and you start sensing a loss in oomph, much cheaper than changing the entire motor.

Other things worthwhile checking, are bearings if your, (not over/under gearing and) getting temp issues. Not to mention your drive train components.

i had one overheat and had some brown coloured stuff stick to the rotor, which i think was the stuff that the wires are coated in inside the motor case.

i just dremmeled it all off with a fine wire brush attachment and the motor works fine again now
