Default Weight in car query?

Hi all

Raced my short course today, and (not sure if was psychosomatic or real) found a real difference between the trucks handling when changing between my trakpower and ahem winforce lipo.

Just weighed them both and the trakpower is some 30g lighter than the other.

So could 30g extra weight really make that much noticeable difference in a short course's handling?

That doesn't surprise me.
If strategically placed, you can feel the difference of 30g - certainly in helping rear traction on many 2WD cars anyway.

However, I would possibly also suggest that the difference you felt could be the difference in discharge characteristics between the 2 packs - if the trakpower has a higher capacity and / or C-rating combination (multiple capacity and C-rating together to get a true current delivery rating of your battery) then it will feel punchier and possibly, in today's low traction at EPR, would make your SCT slide and spin out more under acceleration.

But in theory, yes, 30g can make a difference but in your SCT today, I suspect the difference is more likely to have been in the quality of the 2 batteries - with the 'lighter' one able to deliver more current to the motor for whatever reason.
HTH.

Oh, so it was psychosomatic then

I thought it was to do with the c rating at first, but transpired that both lipo's were 30c (with the heavier winforce being 5000 and the trakpower 3600).

Traction wise, I did find the Kourse Kings to be alot better in the wet/damp today than the previous HPI ATTKs I have used up EPR in similar conditions, defo didn't spin out quite as much as I've done when practicing.

May experiment with adding some weight tho between now and the next winter warmer, be interesting to see how much difference it possibly makes - may help me improve on my overall last place

Anyone have any good ideas for what to use to make homemade weights?

cheers
matt

Home-made weights just use roofing lead and cut to size then flatten them out with a vice.

Cool, both me brothers in law are builders and ones a roofer too

..........quite like the idea too of a beer bribe too tho........

(Matter of interest, are there any sct owners who run weights, is there an optimum? or would this be pretty dependant on track and personal preference type scenerio?)
