Default Brakes not effective

Hi all,

I have a speed passion ESC with a control box for set up. Just found the time and courage to have a fiddle as I wanted more brakes on neutral.

However, I think I've set up everything to maximum and still the car rolls. Surely in neutral (or a little reverse stick even) it should stop the drive wheels in an instant.

What am I doing wrong?

All words of wisdow and other greatly welcomed as it reet doing my nut in!

Make sure it was the drag brake you adjusted, not just brakes.

Drag Brake (2) set to 8 = 50%
Max Brake Force (5) set to = 4 = 100%
Initial Brake Force (7) set to = 4 = 40%

Cant see what's wrong.

1) Set the transmitter EPA's to 100%.
2) Set all brake curves to linear
3) Re-calibrate handset with ESC.

Then retry...it could be that the ESC doesn't know where neutral is properly, so is not applying drag brake effectively.

Hope this helps.

the wheels shouldn't stop instantly in neutral, thats why its called neutral to stop wheels dead you must use break, drag brakes are only to give the effect of a brushed motor,

Ok fine, didnt know what 'Drag Brakes' did - understand now. This appears to be working.

However, What I want is some braking effect in neutral postion of the stick without the need to pull back on it.

Something that isnt happening, or is it not possible?

Right, thanks all. Looks like the ESC is set up ok. Perhaps its a t/x issue as it make no difference to stopping times if I just flick back to neutral or reverse stick .com

Is this bench testing, because on track you would see a difference.

Not exactly bench, but a 20ft long hall way on carpet, which I would have thought would be enough. I'll leave it till Monday and see, Ideally I'd like to get quite a bit of 'slowage' upon releasing the throttle

I've got mine set to

Drag brake 2 (5)25%
Brake force 5 (4)100%
initial brake 7 (3)20%

And I'm getting quite a bit of drag brake when just holding the car and letting off the throttle.

So would have thought with the settings you have it should stop the car pretty quickly.

The other thing might be the Neutral range which is setting 8 as have mine set to (1) 6% as this puts the throttle response and brake response very near the neutral on the stick.

my speed passions brakes are a bit crap too. Did a tx reset on the model number, set the neutral, full throttle and full brakes as per the esc set up intructions and it doesn't stop the car instantly. there seems to be a delay in the full braking power which in itself isn't very strong.

I'll keep the Neutral range in the bag until Monday... so will let you know the result

This is my concern. I would have thought on full brake settings and full stick it should stop on a 6 pence, but it rolls on quite a bit
