i would run something around 18, depending on track conditions. If it's a really small twisty track then drop to a 16. If it's a large open flowing track then you could get away with a 19 on a sintered brushless.

So I should get away with it by using the kit 17 for a overall pinion, even if I've dropped to a 76 spur?

What's the main difference between sintered and Bonded anyway?? I know the sintered one has more resistance, but does this also give it more torque??

I tried the chart at www.gearchart.com but thats for bonded only, and it gave me a 13-14 pinion result. but I think that is way too low, Kyosho dont even sell them that low.

Thank you for helping by the way

the 17 should be fine on an average track. if you feel you need more top end down the straight then move to an 18.

sintereds do have more torque so can pull a larger pinion, but more importantly they run cooler than bonded so the speedo won't thermal as easily if slightly over geared.

Hey Tom Erik

I am running my Lazer with 78 spur and 17t pinion. I think it depends very much on which track you're racing on. During the race in kodal a month ago it was very hot weather, and I noticed that the motor and esc getting quite hot.

I am running a Reedy 3star 6.5 in mine, and I think running a 78/16 gearing I still will have enough speed.

Default ZX-5 spur and pinion question??

I have found that the min. size pinion in the zx-5 is much bigger than that of the xx4 (which I ran before)

I find that a 16t is too small for the 76 spur. has anyone else found this? I'm running the ss5800 motor.

thanks in advance

Keep in mind you need to gear sintered rotor motors about 3 teeth (or more) higher than a bonded rotor.

I am running a Peak 6.5 in my lazer with a 23T pinion on the stock spur.

Will a 13T pinion mesh properly with the 78T spur? Im running a mamba and need to gear down to the lowest possible combo to tame the motor down. Right now Ive got a 15T in but I think I need to go down 1 or 2 more teeth.
Does this sounds right?
