Default Cat or B44.1

Hi Guys,

I am new here and this is my first post, so go easy on me please

I raced 10th electric off road in the late 80's / early 90's at club level and did OK. I then left proper racing because of my new family, but kept my hand in with 8th IC and 5th scale, and sometimes found myself at a club.

I got back into racing proper 18 months ago with a brand new top spec set-up including a B44 on Lipo. I was doing OK again, making the 'A' final every time. Unfortunately all this ended after only 2 months as I had a disagreement with another 'racer' ! I sold up totally and left.

Unfortunately, R/C racing is in my blood and it will not go ! I am just about to buy 'another' full set-up and start again. I will try and grow a thicker skin !!

Back in the day, I raced only Schumacher and loved them, but the car I used 18 months ago was the B44. I was totally blown away with how far 10th off road had come! the car was on rails! I loved it!!

But my hart is still with Schumacher.

My question is, When I put my money down again on my new car, should it be the B44.1 or the Cat SXII ????????

Many thanks

Rob.

Both cars are very good. The choice is yours. Just look at what others are running at the track and if you have good part support at your lhs.

There is no answer to this that we can give. You will get people voting for the car they own and someone else will then chime in for a different option to these two!
The B44.1 won't be much different to what you had (although the shocks are But if your heart tells you different then you will always wonder what if.

I'd go for the one that has the best local support where you race as that always helps.

Is the Cat as tough as the B44?
Is the Cat easy to tune to a track like the B44?
Does anything wear out quickly on the Cat?

Thanks.

From what i have read on here....the cat sx2 seeme to have had a few problems with idler gears, and the slipper layshaft. Not too sure if these have been fixed, but i am sure they will be soon.

Not too many problems with the b44, but some people seem to mash gearboxes, if they dont set them right from the start!

I got my SX at the start of July. replaced the idle gears when I got it since they looked a bit mashed and the trans wasn't smooth enough for my liking. Then munched those and replaced them 3 weeks later. Then munched those a week after that. At the start of August I replaced the gears again and replaced the bearings the layshaft sits on and never had a problem since.

Since then I've done a regional event, EOS finals, MAM kiddy race and a handful of club nights on polished floor and carpet.

Schumacher have updated these gears and redesigned the slipper adjustment.

I dont race 1/10 off road at the moment although I do have a Losi XX4 sitting around but looking at the guys at the clubs I go to I would say get the B44 again as you know it and it is much more robust than the cat sx.

Thanks RCAshers,

I have just rung Schumacher, and they did say they have had some issues with plastic and supply of parts from China. This is not something I really want to be dealing with at club night.

So I think I'll go with the trusted B44.1 again until the Cat is a little more sorted.

Thanks for your help

What would that add to the cost of a kit if they were all bought ?

I use to run a B44 last season now what do i run!
the B44 is a quick car and very competitive but i got to the point with it and couldnt go further!
The Cat is quicker but more on the edge so you just have to drive better!
There are alot of things to try to loose the edgy ness for outdoors including moving the front camber link to thefront hole on the alloy hubs and running front roll bar outdoors if you require it!
Miles quicker indoors the Cat MILES due to the amount of steering and adjustability mid corner!!!!!!!

Transmission bits below not a must just make sure you carry a few pairs of layshaft bearings. RC Bearings supply them if you want good ones although saying that ive never had any problems with schumachers.

Ive only done one plastic white gear in my cat and none in the cougar all summer! Very reliable! Alloy gears are around £15.00 from memory link below

If you go for cat which you should get all the alloy bit for front and rear adjustments and 12.5 alloy hubs, 7.5 hubs are only used by the most agressive drivers! Oh and a FAB !!!

Nosram 6.5t octa when you can get one will work everywhere a!d will be quicker than the 5.5t speed passion v3

Any help or further info pm me il help you
