Hi
I have got back into 10th of road racing and went for a Novak 6.5 brushless system for by B4, however must admit find it hard to drive. If I bought another motor from another manufactuer (NOT AS FAST!), is it OK to use the same speedo I got in the system? Or any further recomendations on gearing to help it be more driveablewould be appreciated. Thank you Lee |

Yes, you should be OK, as long as you get another sensored motor. (I'm assuming it's a sensored motor, seeing as it is Novak, right?)
I'd probably go with a 10.5. Much more manageable in a 2wd. Also, if you've already got it geared on the low side, and you have a decent radio with EPA (end point adjustment), you should be able to dial out some of the speed of your 6.5 to make it less of a handful. ![]() |

Lee, I used Novak, LRP/Nosram and Peak/Orion motors before going to Speed Passion stuff.
The reason for changing was to improve smoothness as I too struggled with the power delivery of brushless. I've listed them in the order of most aggressive first to least aggressive. That said I have not tried Novak Ballistic motors yet as I'm so happy with the Speed Passion motors I see no point but they may well be better than the older style motors for smoothness. For me though it was the ESCs that I found the biggest improvement from. The Novak seemed to be almost binary to me and I could never tune that out of it, the LRPs where more tunable but still a little too aggressive for my tastes. The Speed Passion ESCs are simply a joy to work with, so easy to tune, and so much smoother than anything else I have personally driven (not that I have driven them all I must say). Try a few other peoples setups and see what works for you is my suggestion, just make sure you try Speed Passion along the way! Worth asking what rotor size people are using also as that can seriously effect feel. |
