Default power supplies??

thought someone on here might know this little problem,

im going to get a pc psu and convert it, in marcus Goulter's guide, it says to use a car tail bulb to balance the voltage and current(well something like that) except resistors, could anything else be used? maybe led's or similar?

The Racechat thread is exhaustive, load the 5volt output to stabalise and boost the 12volt, bulb wattage or resistors seem to be the way to go.

or if you get a certain Qtec supply they seem not to require the loading. remember that power supplies have changed over the years and are all slightly different.
