Default buying a 2nd hand Lipo

Hi guys I am probably not going to get much chance to race every week, and my budget is v.small (weddings are expensive!).
I would like to know if it worth the risk buying a 2nd hand lipo pack. So i can race my b4 indoor at york with the other F5s with a 12 X 2 .
I am wondering if i could split a saddle to run a 1/12th scale.
Note both cars are running a brushed motors and speedos one a K.O and the other is a novak cyclone.
If I just do 5 minute runs on the lipo pack i wouldn't run the risk of over discharging them? As the speedo have no lipo cutof i think the k.o i can program it though. My NiMhs are pretty much dying so this is the only way I can continue to have fun racing.
I have up graded my protrak to charge lipos but i am not sure if i need a balancer as the pro trak doesen't have this capability yet!
Thx

Sammy

Sounds a good plan to me, charge the half saddles at 3.7v settings, don't see a need to balance, charge together for the B4.
