Default Tamiya TRF201 pinion recommendations - 7.5 and 5.5 : )

Hi there.

Just built my 201 and am abouts to send the shell of too Kifopaint so that only leaves me with one last option.... Radio install and pinions.

I inted to use a gtb 7.5r with this car, however if i want more speed I also have a spare ezrun 5.5 combo to use. I may even use the 5.5 in permanently as i have one in my x-6 and so far its been great.

What pinion recommendations would you guys use for the 7.5r first of all, i have both spurs, so if need be would swap spur gear and purchase new pinions to suit. And what would you reccommend for the ezrun.

I will be using lipo as well.

Thanks in advance.

Col.

Just a thought, it may be beneficial for others as well, for racers to comment on how they gear there cars and with what motors as a nice starter indication.

5.5 haha
7.5 is ok, but if your asking for fdr's, then you prob dont have the ability to control it.

Didn't mother tell you to be nice to people when you were growing up.

I asked if anyone has any recommendations for pinions and also for people to post up what motor spec they use and gearing to help others.

So far I can't see yours just an insult instead.

I tend to experiment first of all, and the mean thing is operating temps.

As an example, my 501 (first one had a 4.5r fitted) with nimhs and it ran much cooler than most of the 6.5r at racing and was ultra reliable. fdr was only a guideline from novak as they had not long been on the market.

Since owning more than 10 brushless systems in numerous cars, i tend to stick to reccommendations first and fine tune later when i get the opportuninty. I have blown quite a few Novaks ( even brand new ones) when gearing off there guidelines. Temperature is more important to me.

well personally I go by asking people who race the same turn motor. Then I look at novak's brushless gearing recommendations as a starting point. And from there usually end up 1fdr lower than what they recommend. Fdr's are also a very personal thing. Some people like higher fdrs, some lower. Lately Ive been using higher fdr's with some timing advance speedies.

and by way I and most people would have a chuckle about using a 5.5 in a 2wd. The best drivers in the world dont use 5.5's in 2 wheel.

5.5 is only in there as its a cheap ezrun and doesnt really offer the same kind of power as say a novak 5.5r. The whole setup only cost £65 and so far they have been mega and worth more testing in my opinion.

In my x-6 squared, its fast enough on the straights but not too ballistic and is no faster or slower than what everyone else is running. My local track is Southport ( see the pics from this weekend ) and you will see it has a long straight and depending upon track size .long straigts as well as the technical sections.

In my macnum and madrat the 5.5 is slower than most 6.5s but then again i tend to drive them smoother as they are more powerful motor, however this style of drivng allows cooler running temps.

Reverting back to the 4.5r in my 501, it was no faster or slower than the rest in my final, and opertaing temps were good. That particular novak is getting up for at least 4 years old now ( when they first came on the market ).

8.5 I got on a 24/25 depending on track. But as with all gearing, especially brushless, it depends on your ESC and motor to.
