Default Back in the day!

Hi

I need soem help i want to know about what time did number plates change from black background and white writing to the white and yellow background with the black writing??? Also which one would you find on a escort mk1 mexico??

The reason i ask is im making a replica rally shell for my mardave and i want it to be as realisitic as possible, ive got cibies and red mudflaps. ive got minilite wheels on the way.

Also if anyone knows any other details about the old mk1 rally cars all information would be very much apretiated to make it more authentic im a bit to young to remember them lol.

and if anyone's got any pictures of one in action it would be ace.

Traditional plates for vehicles constructed before 1 January 1973
Vehicles constructed before 1.1.1973 may display traditional style “black and white”
plates i.e. white, silver or grey characters on a black plate.
You will have to work out the rest

or info on plates

[edit] Colour and dimensions (United Kingdom)

Black number plates with white or silver characters are permitted on vehicles manufactured before 1973.

Current plates have black characters on reflective white PVC (for the front plate) or on reflective yellow PVC (for the rear plate). These are the colours used in the common EU plate format (though not all other EU states use the two background colours in this same way).
Older plates had white, grey or silver characters on a black background. This style of plate was phased out in 1972, and is now legal to be carried only on vehicles built prior to 1 January 1973.
Front number plates are 520 mm x 111 mm (20.5" x 4 3/8") in size. Rear plates may be 520 mm x 111 mm (Standard), 285 mm x 203 mm (Square),[citation needed] 533 mm x 152 mm (large).
Motorcycles formerly had a double-sided number plate on top of the front mudguard, curved to follow the contour of the wheel and visible from the sides. The requirement for the front number plate was dropped in 1975 because of the severe danger these presented to pedestrians in the event of a collision

Ive now found out the proper name for it i knew it wasnt a mexico just wasnt sure what it actually was. But with alot of help from paul worsley he said its a ford escort mk1 twin cam so at least now i cant call it by its proper name.

The only thing i dont like it i cant get the correct blue line down the side due to the wheel arches ive currently got im pondering over getting some blue vinyl and making my own.

This is what ive got at the moment:

Work in process...

still got alot to do tidy the wheel arches up
put the minilite wheels on
get rid of the little black mark on the rear right heel arch
sort the sibies out
put numberplates on
Put stickers on
possibly change the blue lines down the side but i think the line swill be to difficult.
make front mudflaps and change the rear ones to blue.

Now you tell me.

I may get a new shell and start again. So then i dont have a problem with cibies and i wll paint it first. The last one i painted i used tamiya paint that had like a laquire in it so it was shiny.
