Default Bump steer...

Hi All,

can somebody explain me the effect of the bump steer adjusting.

Does it change the toe in- out during full bump of shocks? or...???

thanks in advance.

I found this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKJAukSZRT0

Ok, it means at bump the wheels getting to toe out.
On straights fast jumps it should destabilize the front after landing.
So what happening, if I put more washers under the ballink???

Target is to minimalize the bumpsteer effect.

In speedy turns with strong break, it should overrsteers the car- more toe out

Im getting to be lillbit crazy cause this

some help?

Most of the Boyz are racing this weekend -- Shoot-Out and a U.K. National. Perhaps Elvo can help -- he's really best with this stuff anyway -- but I think he's taken his new bride off to the mountains. We'll get to it soon.

For most of us minimising bump steer is best as it can lead to unpredicatbility i.e. the other setup factors can be considered in their own right.

However I know Ellis has used this as a tuning aid to effect steering in parts of the corner. I don't pretend to be able to feel it, there are easier ways for me to get my car somewhere near normally but I assume it's effectivley changing the ackerman of the steering depending on what point of the corner (and how much that conrer is loaded at that point).

it can help give more steering under braking into tight hairpins,it makes the front more aggressive as the front wheels start to gain some toe out giving more initial turn in.

it can make the car unpredictable on bumpy rutted tracks tho as the steering/toe is changed thru the bumps, this can make the car feel 'darty' and you may struggle to hold a straight line.

Hi Guys,

thanx for infos.

Dav G... U are right

So I made a simple test to check whats happening if the bumpsteer is eliminated to minimum.
Normally 2 washers the car felts good in 180deg highgrip turn. When I put 4 washers 4mm, the same turn became a bluppsss overturn area.
So basically during breaking, when the front is in recoil position, the low bumpsteer effect keep the wheels in paralell or little toe out position, what add "huge" steering....or maybe little bit more turn speed????

maybe im wrong, but I wanna understood and feel all details on the car...not only on theoretical view.
