I don't want to sound too daft but, im ready for a new car shortly and i've been giving the SX2 some thought (as well as the DEX410R). Now, this is my first year doing off road and i'm wanting a car that i can go further with, i would just like to know a couple of things:
1/ How would your rate the car in general? (pros/Cons) 2/ What is the difference between the Pro CF kit and the S1 kit? I know the answers are prob available with a bit of research on the tinterweb but i would rather get some opinions off you helpfull people ![]() Thanks shaun. |

the only difference for the carbon and S1 kits is the chassis and shock mounts. The S1 kit will have a little more flex and therefore be a little more forgiving to a newer driver. And any money saved can be spent on choice upgrades like the front alloy gearbox tops and a stegger brace.
oh, and the cat is an ace car!

Is it a strong car in general? i wouldn't say i crash an awful lot but i have a fair share of bumps and scrapes? |

the front wishbones are a lot beefier on the SX2. the shock towers will break if you add an alloy gearbox top, but most cars shock mounts will break if you land on them badly enough.
the stegger brace will hold up the front pivot blocks much better. It's generally pretty strong from my experience, and i've tested the strength a few times! you can add alloy rear gearbox tops, but they aren't as essential as the front as the wing absorbs a lot of impact. better quality turnbuckles would be a good idea as the kit ones can bend on bad landings.

what turnbuckles have you found that work best on yours?
Yeah the shock towers are understandable, i broke 4 on my first Race at Talywain National ![]() I'm currently running the HPI Cyber 10b, which i have found has held up to most of the beatings i've given it while getting to grips with off road racing, so i can't fault that on strength so obviously not wanting something that is a lot weaker. Also a couple of people have said if you hit something with the front then the diff casing can sometimes open up, have you had any probs like this? Thanks for your help anyway ![]() i didn't realise choosing a car could be so difficult lol |

also you wont get the threaded big bores with the s1 cat but this is only my presumption as my cougar s1 came with the race spec shocks where you adjust the pre load via plastic clips on the shock body. bear this in mind as it will cost you 80 quid to upgrade to the cf pro spec shocks.
just my thoughts. |

Thanks for the info mate, i think at the minute my plan is to get the all singing CF kit. I've been told that the S1 kit chassis has a little more flex, so all i plan on doing is buying the S1 chassis seperate which is only 25 squid

the CAT S1 does have big bores. The only difference as stated on Schumachers website is the chassis and shock mounts.
The Cougar was different.

Is there a lot of patience needed with setting this car up when you first run it?

At our nationals here I ran car with box setup on dirt track right away as I built it. First race and convincing win. Can't comment on astro as I did only few practice runs on astro when I was in UK.

I have seen a few people on track now just running the kit springs and it looks very good, is there any need for a spring set at all lol

I ran my cat with a vague tally setup at coventry. I mistakenly thought we were on the astro track and turned out we were on the grass one. car went very well for my 1st proper race with it giving me my highest finish so far in a regional event. It seems to take a massive beating. I didn't break anything there even with the triple being jumped almost every lap.
local club is very very bumpy and cart wheels are frequent, but the car holds together. so far I've only broken 1 of the alloy mounts on the front. |
