Default LRP S8 BXe Team

Hi,

Quite tempted by one of these, was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them and could give me a bit of info on what they're like? Can't really find much info about people running them/reviews etc.

http://www.lrp.cc/en/products/rc-car...buggy/details/

It's between the LRP or Ve8 at the moment. Any apparant disadvantages with the LRP compared with the Ve8?

Comments appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Ryan

Hi,

there is some detailed review here

http://www.offroad-cult.org/Tracktes...tbericht_1.htm

Even if you do not speak German there is a lot of photos and simple explanations. And google translator can help a lot!
I myself have LRP S8BXe with main upgrades so it is like Team version. Well it looks good, drives also nice. Is light, only ~3.5kg with 2x2S 5000mAh LiPos...
Only problem are fans on motor and on ESC. In one race broke motor fan and after one lap noticed that my buggy becoming slow. Finished that race but was driving extra carefully and very softly... ESC, if fan works, is good. I would say very good. Brakes are instant and throttle feels soft and smooth. But already had one failure of the fan to, ESC even shutdown after it (but it was on practice session)... ESC supports only up to 4S battery. And there is external BEC wire so your LiPos are always out of balance if you go until LVC... So all in all decided to move to other buggy for racing... But think that LRP S8BXe still is nice buggy and racing capable. In my mind only have to change motor and do some modification to protect ESC fan. O, by the way, it is Z-Car buggy so it is not new model with unknown problems...

Default S8 BXe

This is an excellent machine! Just wish there were more people racing 1/8e.

The 'problem' with the ESC fan is easily fixed. There is quite a lot of 'float' in the impeller shaft so if you tip it on to its roof, the fan blades can come into contact with the 4 x button head screws that locate the fan assembly onto the ESC heat sink.

Simply remove the screws and grind a flat edge onto one side of each of the heads, so that they do not overhang the fan area. When refixing, apply a dab of CA or stud lock to the thread to prevent them from turning.

My son has run the BXe RTR buggy to good effect at numerous tracks and likes it, although the kit motor is a bit limp wristed.

I reviewed the RTR version in the June edition of Radio Race Car International. If you want any more feedback (we have also tested the Team version), just ask.

Hi Steve,

Yes I saw the RTR review in the magazine. I guess any opinions on the team version would be great, from reading on here and at rctech the Ve8 seems to be brilliant and I am edging towards that at the moment, but saying that I cant find much on the LRP.

If you've driven both (notice the mag have reviwed the Ve8 but don't have a copy) then an unbiased comparison of the two would be very helpful for me.

If it makes any odds then I am a totally newish to this.

Thanks
Ryan

Hi Ryan

Terry (TelsShells) Atkinson did a fairly comprehensive review on the car in the March edition of RRCi if you want to get a back copy. Generally, he liked the car, with main gripe being (same as with the RTR) fiddly motor pinion swapping, and he did have the ESC fan break!
