Smile FRESH START FOR ADUR OFF ROAD RC TRACK!

Adur Off Road RC Club – Refurbishment and Regeneration!

Adur Radio Control Car Club are pleased to announce the Refurbishment and Regeneration of the Off Road track and facilities. Due to various reasons the track has fallen into disrepair in recent years and despite a work party last Spring, the track continued to degrade.

With a few local tracks failing over the years Adur wants to re-home some of the local drivers, and offer a reinvigorated venue.

Well, the good news is that Andy Boreham who is a regular racer at Adur has agreed to step-up and take the reigns. First thing on the agenda is to sort out the track, not just now (same as last Spring) but to refurbish it properly and then have planned maintenance and allocated spend on improvements ongoing. This was agreed last night at the Adur Committee meeting, so it’s full steam ahead! The club are fully supportive of all their sections, and like all clubs then budgets have to be agreed, but funds have been allocated and will be considered for future work when needed.

The immediate plan is for a full refurbishment work party day on the 10th. April.

This will be more than a lick of paint and a tickle with a rake. New surface soil has been secured and will be there to be used, at least one digger with operator is confirmed, possibly 2. There will be at least one motorised roller also present as well as various other materials and hand tools. The intention is to totally re-lay the track using the new surface soil which has been specially chosen to be a suitable year round, durable surface. Improvements also to the pit areas and the track perimeter.

So why should I come and help? On the day, for those that turn up and assist there will be free tea and coffee, a free barbeque lunch and a free race day entry for all of those that attend for the day. Obviously you get the chance to come and be part of the improvements and then the enjoyment of a great new track to race on this summer, and beyond. And have your say on what goes on there.

The agreements are in place with the landlord, the spend is allocated and there is now a genuine long term commitment. Many hands make light work and so it would be great to see you all there.

Ongoing, the friendly and open racing atmosphere will certainly remain and be encouraged further still. Adur will continue to welcome all racers or bashers including Monster Truck owners who want a go at racing, and if the track is modified then also the new wave of short course trucks, 1/10 electric and 1/8 electric.

Hell maybe even the new off road MX electric bikes too if there’s enough interest and attendance! There is a new website recently launched, again embracing a new wave of content, information and pictures to show what the club can offer. This will be updated regularly. Adur Model Car club is proud to be able to run so many classes, with a top quality circuit track only 10 minutes away from the off road track, the club strives to offer everyone the chance to run at a friendly local track.

There will also be a new calendar of bash days, some with timing gear in attendance, for those who fancy a go before trying a race day too.

Future plans also include a covered rostrum/pit area for the British summer! Some banners from the sponsors for the track, improved race control and toilets. Some new jumps and other track features are planned also, with members input being sought.

This is an exciting time for the Adur track and so it would be great to see as many as possible on the 10th. April to make it happen. Considering some of the recent sad track closures in the south, then this could be a great opportunity to get involved with your new ‘local’ !

Feel free to PM me for more details.

Cool! there is an oval and a brand new circuit track there now, very trick and all new last year. The Off Road circuit is about 10 minutes away. Great atmosphere and will get the track to match now.

Certainly it's on the agenda, if we can get the track in the condition suitable for 1/10 and also create a cut through to perhaps shorten the track a touch then it's very feasible.

Also looking at opportunities for getting some astro at the moment too....(Although if anyone has some good tips on how to source this, then please do get in touch!!)

This is a before / after from the last work party. Intention this time is to achieve this, hopefully more, time permitting on the 10th., but definitely to keep it like this ongoing, looking at where we can make soem breaks to shorten it for 1/10 and also the chance of getting some astro too:

Update!

Well things behind the scenes in preparation for the 10th. April are going great guns. So far we are making arrangements for the soil to be delivered shortly before the work party date and confirming details with the digger/s and roller/s to be in attendance. Other tools and materials are also being sourced at present.

We've contacted many of the big UK distributors and manufacturers of RC products and so far the response has been incredible! They will all definitely get a name check nearer the time. We've had commitments ranging from a track banner all the way up to potential sponsorship of a race event with raffle prizes, etc. all to run alongside our long term and main sponsor RC-Direct.

We're considering options of using some Astro turf and then being capable of running even more classes such as 1/10 and the new short course trucks as an example.

I'll post up again nearer the time but rest assured there is plenty going on behind the scenes right now in readiness for the 10th. April and the future!

Be great to see as many as possible there to much in on the 10th. April to get involved and help build something special, so get on down!

Don't forget on the day there will be free tea/coffee, a free lunch off the barbie and also a free race day for those that attend to help for the day.

Great turnout for racing yesterday, with a refurbished track then it all promises a great summer series! New raised pitlane was installed and in use too. This will be painted and have sides added on the work party day....

Also, I ran my B4 round and also a guy there had a HPI SC, they both went really well considering the bumps in the track at present. Once it's smoother after the work party then 1/10 is a real possibility I think.

Just a quick update:

I got in touch with various disties and manufacturer's recently to see if we could get some support for the new track, and I have to say the response overall has been amazing!

Had track banners and things from almost all that I contacted and even a couple of them are interested in a full on sponsored event/s over the summer. A full name check will follow but for now a huge thank you to all those who have responded so generously.

This week the big dirt delivery is planned to arrive at the track, in time for the work party on the 10th.

Also in touch with a company who have a large amount of used astro available and we're considering options with this also.

We've worked out where to put a small cut through, to shorten the track slightly and enable the running of 1/10 ongoing. More to be confirmed on that after the work party.

Don't forget the work party, be great to see as many as possible to create the track and facilities that we can all be a part of creating and enjoying for the future.

Quick update!

Don't forget, work party at Adur is this Saturday, 10th. April.

Please bring if you can:
Rakes
Spades
Shovels
Wheelbarrow
A Mug for hot drinks!

All those attending for the day will receive a free race day, free tea/coffee, free bacon sarny for breakfast and a free BBQ lunch.

Last week we got some more pledges of support from the industry, fantastic to receive and will certainly lead to some exciting announcements soon I'm sure. Watch this space!

We have agreed a 1/10 cut through and if they arrive on the day, we will be now racing 1/10 at Adur, we already have at least 4 SC's confirmed for the jallopy rubbing/racing class!

Possibly more immediately important, last week Nick and Ryan arranged what is currently the most important thing we needed....dirt! Lots of it and the right kind to really give us a good racing surface for the future.

Hard to see just how much arrived from the pics, but it's 2 full dump truck loads of good quality clay, with the possibility of some more this week too.

Massive thanks to Nick and Ryan, great work!!

See you Saturday!

Be great to see you there!

Absolutely, if there are only a few 1/10's then we'll run a simple 1/10 class but if there are enough, then we'll split them out to the more established classes. All depends on how many come down on race days.....

We'll be running 1/8 buggy/truggy as usual and seem to have at least 5 1/10 SC's so in the absence of anything else then we'll be running those for some fun for sure.

The track surface should be great for 1/10 and the cut through will tailor it nicely.

Here you go, not too much to see from these apart from a sterling effort by all involved, how lucky were we with the weather too!!

We'll keep taking pictures along the way but this is certainly laying the foundations at the moment for something that should totally transform the track and give us a surface and layout that will be long lasting, durable and make for some great racing!

Quick update!

Well we have had some fantastic weather for the work parties and a huge thanks go to all those that have come down and helped out and the support of the Adur committee, it really is shaping up very nicely. So far we have a lot of the clay down around the track in the areas that needed work the most, the track has been widened and straightened up in many areas with some sculpting. It's by no means finished as it soon became apparent that this time we wanted to do it right, rather than a 'quick fix'.

So we will be continuing the work to add more clay, build it up in various areas and get it flatter/rolled. The ropes will be painted white this week, the new sections of track will get more clay/soil too shortly. The new raised pitlane is finished and painted and now has a shelf on it for refueling and starting, the steps up to the rostrum now have improved handrails, we have 2 new timing loops installed and 4 new small jumps.

The double has become a tabletop and the other jumps have been built up and re-profiled.

Some great news this week is that we should shortly have a large quantity of Astroturf which will be used predominantly to cover the jumps to reduce wear and keep their profiles long term, as well as used in some other areas if there is enough left and it's considered beneficial. Just working out some logistics....

The track is by no means finished so watch this space!

However, the great news is that this Sunday is the first round of the Summer Series on the new track!!! So why not come down on Sunday and see it in the flesh! All are welcome, we will be running 1/8 buggy, Truggy and MT (If there are enough for a round, or MT's will go in with Truggy).

Also for this year, we will be running 1/10 scale too, so dig out those 1/10 buggies, trucks and new jalopy short course trucks for some off road fun! We already have enough confirmed for a round of short course trucks on Sunday which should be great fun to drive/watch!!

Plenty more in the pipeline currently for the track, but that's all for now. So come down Sunday whether you have never raced before or are experienced, and just have fun, that's the goal always! Even if you want to just pop in to have a look, all are welcome!

Well after the first round of the Summer series we got some great feedback and some tweaks and changes are on the way to make Adur even better.

We're looking to get more clay to continue to improve the surface and we're currently doing a rain dance so we can get out there and use the roller with more effect!!

Also this week our big astro delivery arrived

We'll be re-profiling the jumps and then using this to cover them, as well as using it on some other high wear areas. This will be a real bonus, especially for running 1/10 scale and also to reduce a little the maintenance requirements ongoing.
