am interested in a rb5 but a bit confused by the different specs and setups.whats the differences between the original rb5 and the sp and sp2?how do these diferences alter the handling on track?how easy is it to upgrade from original spec the sp2(also how costly)?what are your experiences running on grass with this car?sorry about all the questions

If buying new then get the SP2 and 2 packs of UM521 wishbones & UM510-02 axles (or UMW502 axles for Proline wheel fitting). With that combination you can build the car out of the box to both SP2 and SP geometry to find which suits you.
Original car is VERY locked down at the rear with good steering. SP is a little less locked down at the rear (still much more so than a B4 for example though) and with very good front end bite / steering SP2 is slightly looser again on the rear but still not quite as much as a B4 but with amazing steering. For me the SP suits better than the SP2 but it's all down to how you like a car to feel, Kyosho are the only company out there to offer so many options to it's drivers to get the perfect car for them. I'd also advise an Atomic Carbon rear tower but that is down to my preference again and it is certainly not an absolute requirement! The RB5 is an amazingly stable car and doesn't need much tweeking to work on grass / astro and dirt equally well. Only surface I make big changes on is carpet but then again I race on carpet so rarely that I'm not the best person to ask for advice on that surface! Please feel free to ask for any set-up info or parts guidence. |

Someone told me the SP2 upgrade kit is to better fit those who are using brushless motors, hence the centering of the motor mount.
Is that true? |

Frankly you'll be better off buying an SP or SP2 right away as many things have been upgraded.

For springs I'd recommend blue rear & possibly yellow rears (I've never used these yet but other racers swear by them). Fronts springs: Most people use kit silvers but orange fronts are another option to try in conjunction with yellow rears .
As for spares, the car is very strong, so depending on how much of an animal you are on the throttle: rear wisbones, T-plate, and possibly a rear shock tower. To give you an idea, I've run mine for 2 years now and have only broken an original 3-hole rear hub, a T-plate, and tall rear shock tower. However if you're buying new, all of these have been changed and I haven't broken any updated parts. As with any car, something will always give if you hit a solid track marker hard enough, but you'll have to hit it harder than say a B4 to bust something. Weight - brass bulkhead is nice to have but not needed as you can get 30g of lead in there. Same for weight under the cells. I run 120g under my Lipo. Hope this helps. |

I'd add spares for the plastic damper tops ( W5106 ) and front suspension mount ( UM502 ) - these are the only kit things ive managed to break myself.
