5.5 /4.5 brushless

am i right in thinking that most 4wd buggy's are using 5.5 and 4.5 brushless systems, is there a reason for this why not a 3.5,
and can anyone advise a on a motor for my mamba speedo

I think most people will use a 5.5 in 4wd and a 6.5 in 2wd unless they are on big open tracks and they may drop to a 4.5 and a 5.5 respectively.

As it is a 5.5 or a 4.5 will light up the tyres under accelleration, a 3.5 would just be too much to handle, if you look at some of neil craggs old setup sheets he used a 7.5 on occassions, so ultimate speed isn`t everything.

I tried a 4.5 sintered LRP at Oswestry and it was plain and simple too fast. it was not too bad on the mid and top end but bottom end was way too feirce, and coasting was pretty aggressive 'engine' braking too, even with 0 drag brakes on the speedo setting.

the 5.5 bonded LRP is much nicer to drive, not as fast, but very nice feel on the whole track.

i run a 4.5 its way too quick a 5.5 or 6.5 much better

I tried John Prices LRP 5.5 in his D4 yesterday at Bury and it was too quick, way too much for what was needed with too much power and top end and near uncontrolable.

Both my self and john agreed a slower motor was needed, I would say after using Johns system a 6.5 in both cars is more than enough, possibly a 5.5 for tracks with a big straight. But for technical tracks such as Bury metro, a 6.5 would of been dialed.

I have to say I like my 5.5 LRP around bury metro and southport - I haven't properly tried the sintered but the bonded feels great. I thought it might be too quick but its about right I think.

Now im going against everyine and saying that it doesnt seem to matter what they run a teesside from 6.5 to 3.5.

For the mamba speedo i recomend looking at the Mtronik plasma PRO motors, being sensorless they will be spot on for that speedo

to be honest mate use a milder motor because u will concentrate more on the driving and less on why is my car swopping ends every corner

When i get a legal motor im going for either the 4.5 or 5.5 mtroniks motor

I would probably have gone for the 5.5 as the mamba 5700 is around 5.5 equivilent so if i get used to that then a 5.5 should be just ready for me

Josh once you have gotten used to your mamba then i think you will have an idea about which motor is suitable for our track. But i really do beleive that your speedo and tranny need setting up a little more to give you more of a feel of what the car is capable of. But don't i normally tell you these things at least every other time i am down there. That is why, if i am down tommorow, i will be wanting you to have your lead that goes into the computer from your mamba. So Glenn can sort all that stuff out, if not i will try not to mess it up to bad. And i would also like for you to have your transmitters instuction booklet as i can never make sense of the three letter words that come up on the screen for each setting. Then hopefully we will have it all sorted by the end of the night and will be able to see improvements in your cars performance.

Legend: I always have my Tx instructions with me you just never asked. Im gonna bring my lead down tonight aswell as my laptop and everything else, hopfully i can sort the dam thing out it is going well but 40% drag brake on the slippy stuff is baaaaad.
