Got slight issue - tried some DMS spur gears and can not get them to stop slipping - tried locking them up tight to no success. Is there anything I can try to get these to work.
Also a few X6 drivers seem to have issues with their slippers - can you let me know what is the best combo - losi/asc/dms ?? Had a look at one on weekend that ran asc spur and slipper / dms plates and losi rest. Please help?? |

Hi Jamie, the DMS spurs should not affect how your slipper works in any way, but be sure to check that your pads have not worn out and that the slipper plates are then running on the gear itself.
Most of the team now use the X-Factory slipper plates (which are flat - unlike several of the AE ones we have found), with the std AE spring and normal 5-40 nut, They all now use the DMS spurs (in varying sizes) along with standard AE slipper pads (make sure that these have "clicked" fully into place and are flat before you assemble on to the car) Check these few things and let us know if you have any further troubles.....

The only problems I have had with the slipper was on the truck, using the AE White pads. The XF Plates help a lot. On the buggy I have never needed more than the AE slipper spring but the truck being heavier needs more spring with the newer white pads. The silver spring from the old losi Hydra kit works nicely. Also, after every few runs you can clean the pads up with a green scotch-brite pad or fine grit sandpaper.
If you can find a set of the old brown slipper pads they work much better. Unfortunately they are the same stock number as the new version so not so easy to find. AE is suppose to release a new compound soon that will be similar if not the same as the old compound. DMS spur gears are great, I won't run anything else now that I have gotten my hands on them. I concur on the Losi Hydra spring, though this seemingly is very much personal taste.

Darren/Dan etc
Thanks for the info. I have indeed clicked a brand new set of asc white slipper pads into the recess on the spur. After speaking to Mat Dodd on sunday he said that he tends to run a new spur very tight for a few races as if it slips any it glazes the pads. I also heard that the dms spurs slip then get hot and causes problems. Still not sure what the ideal combo is as I also know that asc team drivers have problems with the pads. Still after help |

Jay come and see me on Fri/Sat and ill have a look for you I ran a losi slipper last year plates, pads, spur and silver spring which worked well most of the time but I now run Xfactory plates, AE pads and Dms spur with the the AE spring but I always put a washer between the nut and the spring!

Jamie, make sure the nut is not bottoming out on its threads. You can put washers on either side of the spring if necessary.
The Losi set-up, with the plastic cup for the inside of the spring and the plastic top for the outside has always looked good to me, and prevents the nut from bottoming out too. |

I've had a slipper completely disassembling itself, It was set ok and it didn't loosen while running.
After a collision with an other car it was into pieces in my car, the nut came off completely. And slipper parts all over the place ![]()

Been thinking about this as it's not easy to see how a spur can have any effect on the slipping action.
The only thing I can think of that would make the slipper not turn the transmission properly when it's fully tightened down was if the slipper plates are tightening down onto the central boss on the spur somehow, which maybe wouldn't provide enough friction/torque to turn the driveshaft? 2 Possibilities for that... 1) The central boss in the middle of the spur iss too wide, and is in effect wider than the slipper pads. 2) Your slipper plates have been over tightened at some point and are now dished so that middle is pushed in and now tightening down onto the boss? Not sure if either is likely, or the real cause, but I can't think of anything else! Maybe worth a check anyway. I have the DMS spur on my X6, I might take a look at mine over the weekend and see what it's like!

The above is one of the reason we reccomend the new X-Factory slipper plates, they are dead flat and not dished or distorted like some of the AE ones we have come across....
