Default Shock confusion!

These are the shocks for Losi 1:10 buggies:

Losi rear dampers 2WD:
LOSA5064 shaft 1.0" (1 pcs)
LOSA5055 body 0,9" (2 pcs)

Losi front dampers 2WD:
LOSA 5060 shaft 0,6" (1 pcs)
LOSA 5054 body 0,6" (2 pcs)

Losi rear dampers 4WD:
LOSA5062 shaft 1.2" (1 pcs)
LOSA5056 body 1.2" (2 pcs)

Losi front dampers 4WD:
LOSA 5060 shaft 0,6" (1 pcs)
LOSA 5054 body 0,6" (2 pcs)

Now, I reckoned I could later identify the parts by measuring them?

Converted to mm from inch:

0,60 inch > 15,24 mm
0,71 inch > 18,03 mm
0,80 inch > 20,32 mm
0,89 inch > 22,61 mm
0,90 inch > 22,86 mm
1,00 inch > 25,40 mm
1,02 inch > 25,91 mm
1,18 inch > 29,97 mm
1,20 inch > 30,48 mm

But I just cannot find any parts of the shock with those measures...

Que???

No, I've thought of all kinds of possiblities... but nothing seems to add up...

My conversions to mm are correct right?

(It's the same for Associated btw)

Conversion definitely correct but can't solve your problem

Thread (spring adjustment) length, shaft length (piston to thread), travel, can't really think what else it could be. The 4wd rears are a bit longer, that's all we need to know isn't it really. You could try a post on Losi USA forum if you're losing sleep over it!

I'm not quite with you here, why do you need to know? If you need the shafts, part numbers will do, and if you have them, putting them all together from shortest to longest would at least show which is which

Why measurements are way off is something I really don't get though

OK, maybe I'll try rctech then...

Personally I've f***** up a couple of times using the wrong shaft or body

What's even more strange is that the same is the case for Associated! So we just gotta be missing something here! (there the front shocks are different also 2 vs 4wd)

I'm fairly sure the number is the travel ('stroke') measured in inches.

Meaning shaft overall length minus length of the threads minus distance from top to bottom E-clip groove minus length of one cartridge.

The Professor strikes again!

OK, I'll check that. But I tried with an assembled shock and measured the travel (without spacers) and that did not add up at all. So it's for sure not "actual travel"...

Well I asked my man Jason at AE and here's what he posted on Rc Tech in answer:

Hello all, this is indeed a confusing topic for most since there is some history that not many current racers know.

First off, the numbers listed on the shock shaft packages are the stroke length for both Team Associated and Losi shock shafts. This should be fairly straight forward for the AE shafts as they measure properly when you assemble them into the body and install the eyelet and spring cup (without limiters).

The confusion comes in with Losi shafts. The Losi shock used to have a different cartridge installed in the bottom that used a piece of foam for volume compensation (like a bladder). The cartridge assembled similarly to the current ones in that they contained 2 o-rings and a spacer, but on top was a hat section that held the foam piece. Since these were Losi's first shocks, all of the stroke lengths were based off of the shock stroke using this VC cartridge. The current design of the cartridge is now shorter since the VC feature was removed and thus the printed stroke on the package is longer than the measured when assembled with current parts. Don't quote me on the number but I think the shafts should have approximately .200"-.250" more stroke than printed.

Hope this helps...

Fantastic! Thanks so much! In my opinion both Losi and Associated should mark the bags with the length of the part in stead.
