Default Old X-Factory Forum

I see this is gone (and there's a new one)... what happened?

Can it still be accessed?

Many of us spent a lot of time & effort posting mods etc there, it should therefore still be accessible! At least I'd like to put the info elsewhere.

The "new" (over 6 months old now) forum was launched last July, not sure if the content of the old one is still accessable or not, I am sure Chazz (or maybe even Paul) will come along here later and post a reply to clarify though......

I really REALLY hope that's not the case...

That's countless hours of work totally down the drain...

Nobody did a backup of it?

Tried the "WayBack Machine", but it hasn't got the forum itself:
http://web.archive.org/web/200708241...wdrc/index.php

Any other suggestions?

Btw. I hope Jimmy does periodically backups of this great forum!

I agree with you SHY. The old forums had a great deal of information in them. Paul still has a backup of the old forums and at one point there was talk of bringing them back as read only for reference.

There are sooo many things to be done in this (now) 2 1/2 people company. Paul, me, and Mom doing the finances.

Until the launch of our new website we occupied three server spots with one server company and two spots with another company. The second company, priced about double the first, had the two forum boards.

When we consolidated to one site and one forum, we got rid of the second server company, putting the single forum on the vacant server spot with the first company.

At the same time, we started an entire new forum, utilizing an updated version of the board software because of much better spam protection. With the old forums, it had gotten to the point that we had to get on them 2-3 times each day (7 days/week) to delete spam and disable user names & IP addys.

I'll let Paul comment on whether the old stuff was lost, but I think it will be difficult to put it up. Much of it is about the discontinued X - 5.

Sometimes you gotta decide...

Chazz, if Paul has a backup he can just give me access to it and I'll do the work for you. Let me know please.

Good boy Jimmy, I thought so!

I'm about to tell you why sooo many things we want to do don't get done, and why many things take sooo long. Thousands of potentially great ideas have never seen the light of day. It's a matter of priorities. The list is long, and sometimes we have difficulty with the top item, much less the second.

Paul raced Saturday in Detroit, and as I write this he is driving 175 miles down to Columbus to race on Sunday. When he returns about midnight tonight, he's got 48 hours to get ready for the CRCRC MidWinter, and I don't think he's touched his truck since the Clash.

We will release three new parts next week and they are shipping Monday to our dealers. Paul must do some drawings for the printed material in the packages. He also needs to complete engineering work on two more new parts so we can send them out for bids, and we want that process started before CRCRC so the quotes are ready when we return.

And we just took delivery of the material so he can start making prototype parts for the 4WD project. The design work is done, but Paul must toolpath it and then run the first ones. We want to run the first proto car at CRCRC.

We have two new dealers to get up on our contact page and some race results to post. What else should we add to his list???

I hope you see it's not that we don't want to, but that there's no time. Paul and I regularly meet to re-set both of our priority lists, and I hope you agree all of the above ranks higher than old data on the forums. It's not that the old data is unimportant, but that all the above, and a bunch of other stuph I haven't mentioned, is more important. We very much appreciate your offer to help, Shy, but exchanging E-mails with you, then finding the data, then more work to send it all takes time away from the above.

Honestly I think it wouldn't have taken much more time than writing those long explanations If Paul can find the data I simply give him my FTP address + user/password... Takes him less them 5 mins to send it on it's way...

And I wouldn't expect much activity on your new, blank forum. I for sure won't spend more hours of my time on there now...

Even if the X-5 is discontinued lots of drivers will still use it for years to come. Just look at the XX4...

I already linked to the best treads from this page:
www.ymr.no/10orTips.htm

But 1/2 of it is dead links now...

And had you guys sent a warning to all your forum users we could have extracted the useful treads before you removed it.

What about the old "Tech" sections on 2wdrc and 4wdrc?

Still got those?

We left the old websites up and running when we switched over, haven't really taken them down lol. Obviously they're not updated, but the old tech sections are still there in all their glory. Eventually when I have time I want to re-do the tech section of the current website completely; there's a lot of updates to go through and I think it could be presented a whole lot better.
