hi mate,

some of the main things to look for hop up wise would be an alu motor clamp but these are very hard to get hold of.. id definatly get some springs, the most common used are green, silver or blue on the fron end and mainly red or pink on the back.. not sure about modifacations or building tips as mine come new but built.. but id take a look at the review on the car jimmy did ..

http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/reviewxx4/index.html

the guys to see about set ups would be people like phil sleigh or somebody.. also for youre motor gearing the kit xx4 worlds edition comes with a purple spur gear which is 84 tooth, on the average size track it would be 20 ? to start off with ??.. but in the review jimmy has done this is stated ..

" I was advised at this point to swap the kit 84t spur gear (purple) for a smaller 82t (yellow) spur, this is im told to prevent the spur from touching the chassis under (very) heavy landings, this may not be necessary on the re-release but from what I’m told it is the choice of a lot of drivers anyway "

The xx4 is very competetive from the box.

The only thing I would say is with the factory turnbuckles, if you run the rear link position everyone runs, there are only a few threads inside the ball cups, and so can pull out

You'll need Red rear springs and Silver fronts as a starting point.
With the current shortage of front shock towers the Carbon Fibre shock tower stiffeners I sell are also a good idea.

Lots of people run a One Way Diff, if you chose to do this you will need CVDs for the front as well.

The xx4 comes with a 78 tooth spur out the box.

So gearing for an 11 is about 19 on a 78 spur. Am i right mr sleigh or mr preddy????

I would recomend changing the spur to make gearing easier. So either get a 82 or 84 tooth spur.(yellow and purple)

Also i recomend upgrading the ball cups from the standard ones to the factory white or grey ones.

With springs as dom has said you will need red rear and silver front. I wouldalso get green front because in some conditions on grass you will have to much steering with silver springs so if you use green springs it willmake the car more managable.

With silver springs always cut 1 and 1/2 coils off one end of each of them this is to make the spring harder and more like the green spring.

The car comes with a 84 (purple) spur not a 78.
You only need to run the lager spurs if you are running brushless, other wise you want to be running the 78t spur.

Gear your 11x2 21-22/78 and see how it goes, with the spares if you are going to put the XXXcr rear wishbones on, you need to use the hubs as well.

Setup wise start with
Front
Piston - orange
Oil - 35wt Losi
Spring - silver (you don't have to cut 1.5 turns off but it does make the spring slightly stiffer)
Shock position - 2-inside
Camber link - 1 (if you want a more aggressive steering car use position 2)

Rear
Piston - orange
Oil - 27.5-30wt Losi
Spring - red
Shock position - 3-inside
Camber link - C-8
With XXXcr wishbones use the middle hole for the shock mounting and long VLA and use hole C on the hub with 3-2 gold washers

Also use the outer holes on the steering bellcranks.
Fit your cells in the forward position.

Oh i didnt realise it came with a 84 mine came with a 78 it must ave been changed.

And isnt 21-22 a bit high for an 11 as i run my 12 on a 82 spur on 22. Surely a 20 would be about right. this gearing has got me confused.

This is the setup i run i found it to be a ace setup.

Ashley how much experience have you had with running the V2 style motors, having run these motors since they first came out in 2003/04, I think I know how to gear them!!

That setup you got from the Horizon setup section is good but I personally found the rear to be too soft for me.

You also need to bear in mind that he's hasn't said if he's going to be running a one-way diff.
If not, he will want to run the car slightly softer as the standard diff dosen't give as much steering.

Think before you type Ash

I didnt find it on horizon sleigh told me to run it and it works ace around grass tracks. The back was a bit loose around kiddy. But on grass it is ace.

OK i take it back about the motor it just seemed a bit high IMO but you have got more exsperiance than me.

Who said anything about the BCL????

I ran it at Oswestry 4wd regional and at numerious club nights and practise days. I have been down to the club for about 2 hours this afternoon as dudley was cancelled. And it was going ace.

Also every driver likes a diffrent handelling car. I run tom yardy's grass setup on my b4 and i love it but ive driven other people's car with other setups on that they find to be really good and i just cant drive it.

Just fitted the XXXCR rear wishbones (LOSA2129), rear hubs (LOSA2129) annd the XX4 rear mounts (LOSA2213) to my XX4, and it works just great.
Far more stable on our rough track at Coastal.

ash os is a multi surface track, when you give people advice make sure you tell them exactly what kind of surface your running on, os is less than 50% grass but reading your post makes out you have run it on a full grass track!
must be a cracking setup for you, you came last overall on point at os

anyway back on topic, im not a great driver but i find 35 oil front and 30 rear is good for me, then same as brian
also gear my spashet peak motors 10x1 on a 78 19 or 20 depending how big the track is.
i always run a one-way diff and 90% of the time front anti-roll bar

How do you figure oz is less than 50% grass its more like 70% grass.

And Oswestry regional was the first time i had raced the xx4 off orad i had never raced brushless before. Round one my steering linked pulled out. The steering horn on the ballcrank jumped. I had a few problems with the car i didnt complete one round of qualifying. then in the final one of the turnbuckles came out of the ball cup.

And he asked for a setup that was good on grass so i gave him a setup that is good on grass.
