50 / 50 front to rear but also 50 / 50 left and right. Use a set of scales per wheel if you can.

I don't agree with that and most manufacturers don't either. A 4wd buggy with a 50/50 front/rear split will end up very unstable at the back end. Most have a rear bias around 60 percent.
On-road, 50/50 can work, but again most cars have a slight bias towards the rear for stability. |

I asked this question a couple of months ago, and answers I got were 55/45 for 4wd.

Rule of thumb is to match weight distribution to contact patch. ie; the ratio of front to rear wheel widths should run close to the weight split.
