The true cost of a pint

Beer money A £3 pint costs just 7p to make while £4 a bottle of wine costs 30p. So where on Earth is the rest of your money going?

£24 a gallon

Tax and to the supplier. NOT THE PUB!!

I own a wine bar and we make between 50p-100p a pint depending on what deal we get from brewery etc. we are our own business so we can shop around which helps

That figure is sort of correct. We grow a lot of malting barley for large and small breweries so i just worked out the amount of and cost of barley (the main ingredient besides water) in a pint, i worked it out to 7-8pence per pint. There are other ingredients and the processing cost but even if you triple the cost to say 22p/pint theres still an immense markup.
More trivia; if you drink 7 pints per week (the recommended max units) you need 850 square feet (29ft x 29ft) of land to grow the barley on.

For my sins I work at a Brewery and can tell you that of the actual cost to the consumer, of a pint of beer 75% goes to the Government in VAT and duty!!
