the carbon lipo retainer is quite useful, stops the lipo sliding sideways out of the car!

The cells can be a slight squeeze if your pack is right on the BRCA dimension limit. It also depends on your gearing. If you are running a slower motor with bigger pinion then it moves the motor clamp further forward and it is this that the battery jams against. If you can;t get the motor further back then one option is you may have to swap the internal ratio gears to allow you to use a smaller pinion for the same overall ratio.

oh, and you have one of the early top decks before they positioned the hole better for lipo packs

Aggghhh! Ok, ye it looks like i need to dremmel the retainer down as without it my lipo just about fits in as its tight on the bar that holds strap, I think ill have to shim the bar up aswell as lipos are too high

I set up a lads car from our club using the same cells. i dremelled a little material from the lipo retainer and about 0.75mm from the front bulkhead. This made the pack a snug fit but didnt cause it to have any effect on the ability of the chassis to flex. i think i could of squeezed it in modding just the retainer but it made the chassis very rigid.

As for height, i didnt have any trouble on that score ?

Shout if you need more advice, will help if i can.

Rich

yes cos im doing it without the retainer when i had prob with height! ill get to work on that. But will there be this prob on cat sx 2? as id rather swap cells than hacking at car. this is just a mess car to get me doing a bit of 4wd

I suspect that the dimensions length ways will be identical on the SX2 - just different cutouts on the chassis.

I dont know this for certain though.

Its really not a bad job to do, i used a rough sanding drum at high speed and ran it over the edge of the bulkhead about three times. Its pretty easy, you dont have to remove it from the car just take the undertray off. Set your hoover going do pull the filings away from your electrics though as you work. 0.75 to 1 mm, you really cant even see it once its all back together !
