Smile Need some help on RB5

I love this forum. I've been looking at posts for awhile now and there is so much info it's great!
I'm a total noob when it comes to setting up a car correctly. I usually build it according to the manual and I don't deviate from it much. I only bash, no racing at all.

So i have a few setup questions regarding my Kyosho RB5(not SP)...
1. When i take a turn the tire rubs the bottom of the wing so before i start tweaking the settings i wanted to know how i should approach this.
Do i need to look at my shocks? springs? shock oil?

2. my steering sucks! i've played with the steering trim on the radio but i'm just not getting the tight radius i really like. I probably could upgrade the servo but before i do that i wanted to know what settings i should check to improve the turning radius.

Any help is much appreciated!!

Thanks Neil for a quick reply!
I attached a picture. I hope it helps!
I'm using a Futaba FM 2PL with a Futaba S3010 Servo.
Do you think a CC Bec would help?
thanks!

I get wing rub all the time. I have my wing set up as high as it goes and it still rubs. It is nothing to worry about.

It makes that rubbing noise everytime i make a sharp turn. So is that normal or do i need to setup the suspension to be more stiff?

i know that you are only bashing but there are loads of setups in the rb5 setup section. any from there will stiffen the rear up and stop it from collapsing in a turn. pay attention to camber link positions and how many washers are under them, front weight, springs pistons and oils. the road style tyres you are running are also a very large diameter. great for speed but not much help when trying to solve wing rubbing probs. make sure your wing mounts are in the high position as well

I found a few setup sheets for high traction so i'm gonna try it out. i've stayed away from tweaking my setup too much because it's kinda intimidating when there are so many options to change. But i'm going to give it a try!! it's about time. i'll let you know how it goes!

another question...how much torque should a servo have for a 2wd, high traction surface? is 100 oz enough or do i need more? Also i'm using the CC Sidewinder 5700, should i add a CC Bec to get it up to 6amps? any advise would be helpful. thx!

The most common servo's seem to be the Savox or ACE/AE XP ones. I have an AE XP one, and its very good (I think its an 1/8th servo). DS1616 Model I think.

Futaba do some cheaper servo's that are very good, and savox do a plastic gear version for about £25 I think. Can't give you any model numbers, but have a look on CML's website:

Mark

so a couple of things i've tried that has helped so far...
1. Changed the oil in the rear shocks. they were low so i refilled with 40wt.
2. double checked my wing mounts, washers, camber link and they all looked good.
the rb5 turned much better today. I'm gonna try some different springs to see how they react. i think the stock ones are pretty soft.

btw, i cant find how high/low i need to set the adjustable nut on the shocks for front and rear. whats a good setting for high traction smooth surface?

I also noticed that my esc was getting hot so i lowered my pinion gear and in the process of installing a fan on it!
when i have some more money i'll get a better servo too.
let me know if there any other must haves for the rb5.

thanks,

ed

eddi, send me a PM with an e-mail address and I'll send you my latest RB5 set-up which will work a treat for you ... It's my base grass / astro truf set-up and everybody who has driven my car has said how easy it is to drive and how well it turns.

As for ride height then most people set it by looking at the position of the wishbones and rear drive shafts. As a starting point I'd set it so that;

front:- inner end of wishbone slightly (1mm or so) below outer end
rear:- inner end of driveshafts slightly (1mm or so) below outer end

If you ever need any help with you Kyosho cars give me a shout, always happy to help .... those that know drive Kyosho

So my RB5 is running better but...
I'm still struggling with my turning radius! on very low throttle what should the turning radius aprx. be?
and whats weird is that my left and right are totally different!
i've re-checked all of my settings and steering geometry. when I remove the steering linkage and manually turn the wheels they are the same. However, when i use my radio it differs from right to left. I've even checked my steering trim and EPA. I've strggled with this for a few weeks now. help!!!

I had a similar problem at the weekend. I discovered the short link from the servo horn to the servo saver was too long, I shortened it and I could then get full throw to the right.

I then reset the trim and end-points and all was well.
