Default Dead Ni-mh

Hi All,

I have recently brought some second hand Ni-mh, i normally race 1/8th nitro so trying to keep my costs down

Can anyone tell me if one of the cells are dead will they still charge?

I know a couple of the sets have been sitting for a while, so i have started to cycle them. When I put the cells on my equalising tray after one charge and discharge only 5 bulbs come on.

Would the discharge take some cells lower than other so being too lower to light the bulb? Or would it take cells down in an order?

Does this mean one of them is dead?

I am going to charge them to tonight and see if they light up all the bulbs, do it before I discharge them

Thanks

NiMH's are not the way to save money now sadly.

If you think one of the cells is duff check it with a voltmeter. If it is completely out of lign with the other cells in the pack or at 0V it's a goner.

We used to try bumping them back to life by giving them them high amps on the single cell but it only worked for a charge or two. If you carry on using it the pack will feel bad and the duff cell is more than likely going to blow up in your car or while charging.

Get yourself two decent lipos. Cheaper in the long run and fine to buy secondhand usually too.

Hook them up to a balancer

And make sure your charger is set to lipo mode or the lipo will go bang very quickly.

I use Lipo for reciever packs fot My Losi 2.0 but they have balance leads

But the Trak's ones have not balance lead..... just the two blocks and the conection for the middle.

I have a seprate balancer on the way, would that just sit in between?

You will need to chase down a balance lead - here's what they look like for stick packs and saddle packs:

As Tymill says, you just need an adapter, here's one that will hopefully do the trick

OR

Depends on your balancer connectors
