Default DB01 questions

Recieved my DB01 today

gave her a run all went well could put a couple more teeth on the pinion but that's for another day

what i would like to know is

1. my lipo is a squeeze to fit and as the wires come out the side anything i can do to make things a little less snug ?

2. electrics are also a squeeze i currently have them where it says in the manual but theres no routing for the throttle wire to the reciever wheres the best place for it ?

other than that is a slipper clutch a worhty upgrade ? and the airation shocks ?

Yes - the kit includes a cable tidy to route any wires over the motor

The slipper and aeration dampers are great upgrades but it depends what you're wanting to do with the car - the slipper would be at the top of my list I think.

This is the stuff you're looking for:

http://computers.shop.ebay.co.uk/i.h...&_osacat=31491

Or if you want to go and pick some up from a shop, Maplin do it too http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=26849

As for the slipper, http://www.fusionhobbies.com/Tamiya-...-p/ta54018.htm

That's the single slipper.

Here's the double http://www.fusionhobbies.com/Tamiya-...-p/ta54061.htm. Notice the slight price increase...

I know it's not supporting the UK model industry but I tend to get most of my spares from Hong Kong or Japan (as do most people I know who run Tamiya as the UK importer, The Hobby Co, don't import the right quantities of the right stuff, can take ages to order stuff in when needed and it's normally quite expensive when they do).

I've used Stella Models (http://www.stellamodels.net) a lot with no problems (and they currently have the double slipper up for $46 + postage) as well as RC Mushroom (https://rc-mushroom.com/index.php) and RC Mart (http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/default.php?language=en). Postage is usually very quick (7 days or so) and I've never paid any customs fees either (even when I purchased the DB-01, Slipper, Shocks, Titanium Screw Kit and a shed load of spares at the same time from Stella).

In the UK good places for Tamiya (and especially the DB-01) I've found are Brock Models (http://www.brockmodels.com/) and Fusion Hobbies (http://www.fusionhobbies.com/). There both on a par with each other - fast postage and more than happy to get stuff in if they haven't got it in stock (although that can take ages due to the importer - it's not their fault)

I've no experience of the GPM shocks, mine's had TRF Dampers on from build.

I use a Team Orion Lipo with right angle gold banana plug connectors for the wires. I can plug in from the top of the battery and the right angle plugs keep the wires flush against the battery surface.

This connection solved any clearance issues I had with the tray and the body.

Hope this helps.

ive got a turnight 2s 5000mah pack side exit wires tho ive found facing the wires through the rear tunnel but bending them inline with the transmission tunnel on the battery the esc wires go over the top

this works quite well but the 60a ezrun is a reet squeeze

I use both side wired lipo`s (Demon 5000`s) and bullet (trackpower) lipo`s

The side wired ones as you have said are a tight fit but i`ve used them on and off for 5 months and they work fine all be it not BRCA legal tho.

I also use Trackpower sticks but to get the wiring to fit i had to use Demon 4mm male connector with solder eye Corally style bullets these
http://demonpowerproducts.co.uk/prod...oducts_id=3426 Also had to nick out the battery harness (i have a deans connector so i can use both lipo packs above.

Defineately upgrade to a slipper clutch and the dampers are recommended if your gonna start racing as the buggy handles so much better with these fitted. Also the alloy steering rack is a good upgrade (ball raced) but not nessesary.

i4n`s post is really good and gives great links to trustworthy suppliers

heres some picture`s of my DB-01 for wiring reference and battery reference

Hope this helps

Andy

Hands-down the best place to buy parts is Rdvtg-hobbies on eBay. They sell out of Japan for prices lower than anybody else. Plus their shipping is only $2 for the first item and $1 each additional item. They even arrive at my door in under a week.

Here are the two slippers for way cheaper than what you posted:

I didn't go through to checkout to check postage prices, but Stella has both the items slippers cheaper than your "way cheaper" seller. Not much cheaper ($0.80 for the single and $2.00 for the double) I'll admit, but it's still cheaper. From my experience with Stella it'll probably work out the same overall once postage is taken into account.

However, they are all (Stella, Mushroom, Mart and your eBay seller) substantially cheaper then the UK based shops and it is nice to know of another reputable place to get certain items and spares from.

I always forget about them. Their prices are good, but registered postage always takes forever out of Hong Kong. Stella wants $4 to ship either slipper. I've never seen anybody beat rdvtg-hobbies overall. I don't know if it's just the US, but things get here super fast from Japan. Must be a customs thing (or the postal system on their side)...

It's normally about 7 days from either Hong Kong, Japan or Macau to get to the UK - a bit more during bust periods like Christmas.
