£182,000 speeding fine for driver
A millionaire caught speeding in Switzerland has been hit with a record-breaking £182,000 fine. A millionaire caught speeding in Switzerland has been hit with a record-breaking £182,000 fine. Judges at the cantonal court in St Gallen arrived at the sum by basing it on his estimated personal wealth of over £16 million. The court said the repeat offender drove up to 35 mph faster than the 50 mph limit. The unidentified driver can still appeal the decision to the Swiss supreme court. The fine was more than twice the previous Swiss record.

About right if you ask me!
The problem with fixed fines is that they don't hurt equally. £60 and a few points (bumping up my insurance) is going to be a pain to me, but to a millionaire its small change. Hell, events like the Gumball rally rely on the idea rich folks can just pay off the fine (or bribe the officer) and drive on. For a fine to work you have to feel it!
