Default Experience with Grass (Rc Racing)

Gday,

As you may have guessed from my greeting im from Australia so hello to everyone here

I race a B4 and a T4 in Stock (17.5 Brushless) mainly on clay outdoor tracks so for setups i usually start with an American one from RC10.com (currently using a Lightweight Lipo Setup) and fine tune it which works ok

We do however have a few events on temporary grass tracks with wooden jumps etc As far as i understand in Europe this is a bit more common? Anyway looking at pictures on Oople of various european events it seems most (all?) 2WD vehicles run spiked front tires? Possibly Schumachers? Are these just narrowed rear tires or are they specifically made for the front wheels?

Anyway a lot of questions but any general tips for running on Grass or possibly Grass specific setups would really be appreciated so i can get the advantage over my Aussie rivals (insert evil laugh here)

Welcome Matt

Grass is a common surface in the UK, tho fast being replaced with second hand sports astroturf, the grass soon rips up after a days racing, particularly with 4 wheel drive, difficult to run a 2 day event. Grass & Astro can almost be treated the same with regard to tires, damp conditions a green compound and yellow in dry conditions (green slightly stiffer) these are Schumacher mini spike, come as fronts & rears.

I've been playing about with B4 setups recently, trying different running weight and softening/stiffening the shocks as appropriate and think I've now found my lipo setup

You should be on pins all round, staggers on the front are for wimps

I've not done a setup sheet yet, but I'll list how my car is now so you can try it...

Front
35w/No2/Silver, middle on tower, outer on arm, 24mm ride height, no droop washers
Camberlink 1-A, 2 washers on the tower, -1 camber
30 degree caster, in-line axles spaced middle, 2 bumpsteer washers on steering block

Rear
25w/No1/Silver, inner on tower and arm, 24mm ride height, no droop washers
Camberlink 1-B, 1 washer on U brace, -1.5 camber
2 degrees squat, medium wheelbase

Weight-wise I'm running the Trishbits front bulkhead and brace (55g total), and the older style Trish squat block (28g). Cells are the Trakpower Dark 5000 40c (284g).

Setup like that the car has been fantastic on every track I've taken it to, carpet/grass/astro it's been great. I do seem to be Mr Steering though so if you want to calm it down a touch the trailing axles will dull down the initial turn-in and moving the rear shocks to the middle on the tower will make the car square up quicker and give you a bit more rear end grip coming out
i love this setup , but i m running staggers in front, and 80 g under the lipo.
