Default suggestion

Can I suggest that the mods change their new members policy so that all new postings are moderated, until you can trust they aren't spam. The spammers will simply create new account and "hit and run".

Why are you posting this in the Micro section?

To be honest it would be 10 times as much work to moderate new members as to delete spam.

Cosie, I posted here 'cos it happened here, and I don't really check the other sections of oople. Only check the micro section here 'cos I can't contribute elsewhere (ooh where's me handbag gone!?).

Jimmy - understand completely. I'm more than happy (and I'm sure a lot of other would be to to share the load around) to be made a mod if you want, I'm online almost 24/7, and I mod a lot of groups anyway.

Ditto.
I'd quite hapily take on some minor mod role, as I'm sure many others would as well.

Well I certainly would be willing to lend a hand if you wanted to go down this route although the big issue is it being an inconvience to genuine posters who might then decide to go elsewhere because they cant post here.

Also how do you tell if it's a genuine account and not one that the spammer will wait till it's activated then post up.

I'd be equally happy to take on responsibility for editing the swearing and excesive use of sarcasm out of Col's posts

It is easier to delete spam than verify every account, it's just a case of whether you want some of the posting seen on the forum, especially to younger eyes.
If the mods/admin get to it quick enough, then fair enough, but if not, then either you need more mods, you just accept it, or you verify every account.

I'm an admin on a forum, but the numbers have dwindled, so no longer practical to be on there as much as I was as posting has seriously dropped, so I verify every account. That may possibly be one of the problems as genuine users aren't getting onto the forum as quick as they'd like and maybe not coming back, but I check twice daily, and at the end of the day, it's the gamble you take, as suffered from spam attacks in the past.
