Default Soft Case Lipo ok?

Hi guys, Im in the process of gathering stuff for a B44 in the next month or so. I have just found some Maxamps 6000 Saddle packs for cheap. And wondering if they would be ok- they are softcase one's, but I know that BRCA regulations need to have hardcase. But for local clubs racing/practice would they be allowed. Or is it completely club specific. As I cant afford to spend over £60+ at the moment on batts. Its either get maxamps one.. or some used Nihm.. Anyone know.. or have to wait a lot longer and get a new hardcase lipo.. but tbh.. Im going to be using the B44 for some fun.. no major races on club races.. like titchfield.. maybe clanfield and maybe travel to a few indoor places.. do you reckon that would be fine for me? cheers

I picked up a pack of Reedy 35C 4200 hardcase lipo's on ebay the other week for £46. They fit in the B44 without extending the straps.

running softcase won't be a problem really. just the fitting of the 6000's in the B44. It's likely you'll need to extend the posts on the battery straps to get over them. I only mentioned my reedy's as these fit straight in with just the craddle.

Yea, I know if I got them would need to add longer screws. Ok yea as I like the idea of the 6000 for long runtime. As I will, be mainly running on tracks or clubs races.. worse comes to worse later On I can buy a hardcase.. thanks... so Most clubs arnt too picky.. but obviously bigger races and BRCA ones.. not question you need hardcase. But at the moment not get intention of doing big races as Its mainly for winter.. fun cheers

I read somewhere that the reason were using hardcase ones is because of the speed and frequency of crashing and the soft case ones weren't upto it to be classified as safe? So I know at club level you can use them, but will the club allow it for safety reasons?

I dunno though, am just thinking out loud

Yea, that's my only concern.. that they may not allow them.. hmm tricky.. tbh I think I may just risk it.. and get 1 they would be fine for general running at my local.. as they don't really run 1/10th. And they wont mind and dont think my other nearest club would mind either very relaxed place.. Or, I just get 3 or so Nihm saddle packs.. but knowing me I would upgrade to lipo not long after getting it running.. hmm

But for the price of those 3 saddle nimh cells you could get 1 lipo which would do you? They don't need to be treated as much as nimh so you can just top them up when needed so one pack can be done.

I mean Used Nihm..which can get for dirt cheap.. but yea I know what you mean.. but I still need to get b44 plus elecs.. and stuff aswell.. and im going to have to buy most of it used.. because of budget.. and probably will buy the b44 new.. and the rest used.. tbh. As I cant afford to buy new latest and greatest.. specially when its more for winter fun..

As my main class is 1/8th Nitro already got Xray 809 and RC8 Rc Monster conversion with tekin rx8 system..

Unless you're running some kind of better retention system than the stock B44 one, I WOULD NOT run soft-cased LiPo. They can practically slide out from under the battery straps.

Also, Maxamps LiPos are not very good at all. Some Intellect Lipos from HK or similar would be far better. And they do 6000mAh ones too...

If you want to know whether your local clubs will allow them, the people to ask are the people who run your local clubs, not us.

Most clubs won't allow soft case lipos, my own club allows them but they must be impossible to come out or get hit in an accident, so tucked in the middle of a 2wd buggy is okay, on the side of a touring car or on the rear of a flat plate carbon chassis is not.

I picked up a pair of softcase lipos used for a song a while back and I would never use them in a race in my B44. No way.

Though they can be clamped in fairly securely, they just aren't as well protected as a hard cased lipos. Racing can very easily lead to plenty of crashes and situations where sharp parts of other cars can potentially ram into your packs!

I will confess I've used the packs for practice on an empty track, but even then they're the last resort.

As Terry mentioned, I'd be a little less nervous running them tucked away deep in the heart of the armoured aluminium tank that is my RC10, but still it's sub ideal.

Just my thoughts.

And on another note - I wouldn't bother messing around with NiMh packs at this stage. They're just such a hassle. Get a couple of good lipos, and you're good to go!

Cheers,
Ty

we have no problem with whatever lipos you want to run. all we ask is you charge them in a lipo bag since the school has just replaced the tables/chairs in the canteen where we pit.

a number of racers run the soft case lipos and I've never seen a pack come out of a car and no one runs undertrays indoors.

Alot of clubs to my knowledge enforce the lipo hard case as a very strict rule, just down to safety.

I'm aware micros are allowed softcase, as long as its 2c, but id always go for hardcase just for peace of mind.
