Default ZX5

I have just started getting into buggy racing and my dad also wanted to have a go too, so we bought a 2nd hand Kyosho ZX5 (been told it was worlds edtion)

He has started racing it at stotfold buggy club and hit a few probs.

I said i would have a look around for some spares but before i buy anything i was hoping someone could help me with a few questions i have regarding the car.

# How do i know what ZX5 dad has.......SP? FS? is there a way to know.....the guy i bought the car off says it was just a standard ZX5 worlds..??

# he needs a front shock stay, found a orignal ZX5 one but after Searching on here ive seen people say the SP ones are stronger, i want to stay away from carbon so the strongest plastic ones are what we need..??

# Front drive shafts...Kyosho ones are £45...3 racing steel ones £13.00 is there a reason for the price difference or is it just because the kyosho ones are orignal. (one of dads is bent)

Sorry for all the questions. hope someone can help.

Cheers

Michael, Fido

If you post a picture of the car (front and rear ends would do) I'll tell you exactly what you have.

If you order LA216 Front shock tower you will get the latest, it's a running change and nobody should have the old one in stock.
If you mean the tower mount bracket then the same is true a running change so just order LA210 bulkhead set and there you go

For the front tower mounts some people use the ali aftemarket parts (3 racing do some good ones) and that is a permenant fix to breaking that part but it does transfer the crash energy to the LA216 tower (easier to replac eand usually cracks rather than snapping so you finish your race ... better part to break if you have to break anything!!)

The driveshafts are purely a matter of quality. The Kyosho ones are first rate and of the highest quality and unlike the aforementioned tower mounts the 3 racing driveshafts are not, in my opinion, up to the job of racing.
If the shaft is bent you can try straightening, if not you might be able to find somebody with a second hand set in good nick (in fact I might have some brand new ones if it's an original ZX5 front end as the SP/FS is different).

Hope that helps.

LA216 ... if you try and order an LA126 who knows what you'll get but it won't be for a ZX5

Ok, that car is an original ZX5 with the "mid width rear conversion" almost fitted. It has the LA243 rear arems and the 4.7 offset rear hubs (replace with LA252 for strength) but it looks like the wrong driveshafts so be careful that the dog bone pins don't come out of the diff outdrives on full droop!!!!

The car is fitted with the 3-Racing ali tower mounts

It also has a rear shock tower fitted to the front ... never seen that done before!
