Default comparison between brushed and brushless motor

Is there like a rule of thumb to compare the performance of brushed against brushless.

ie, is a 11x2 pretty much the same as a 5.5 or something?

I ran a 16x3 last night at club and it was great and I know when I go back to my 5.5 it'll be all over the shop. What brushless motor should give me similar performance?

I was thinking maybe 9.5?

I use the following approximate conversion:

Multiply the no. of brushless turns by 2, then subtract 2 to give equivalent brushed turns.

e.g. 10.5T brushless gives 21-2 = 19T brushed.

so for 16T brushed, you want to go the other way and add 2 then divide by 2 = 9T, so your pretty much spot on with 9.5T.

Obviously this doesn't factor in doubles, singles, quad etc, but I won't lose any sleep over that!
It's also worth remembering that lipos give more performance than we used to get with NIMHs, when comparing "old" technology with the new stuff.

i run a 13x2 and its a tiny bit slower than some of the 6.5 you see however they just have more punch so a 6.5 is to much for the track

I thought as much. I kinda drag raced my dad and we were near enough neck and neck.

yeah I've been feeling that fade a lot the last couple of weeks as my brushless speedo is away under warranty. although my lap times stay consistent it just feels really slow. easy to drive mind lol

punch is defo a lot more on brushless!

Its almost that simple, of course you can adjust the gearing and the settings in the esc, but even the motors change, the 5.5 novak's for example also come in a 5.5L version, possibly smoother. On our 5.5 we exchanged the original bonded rotor for a sintered and were very surprised at the extra grunt, we adjusted to it and now seems normal, find 6.5 in 2WD and 5.5 in 4WD at PDA is not a problem, best thing is the motors have been in the car for ages without messing.
